Question: I want to carry a 13-foot canoe on a roof rack on a 2011 Ford Fiesta. I see no problems with fitting a rack (would like your recommendation for a Thule rack system), but I can't figure out how to attach the front and rear of the canoe to a solid anchor on the car. It has plastic bumper on the front and back and no hooks underneath. Have you had any experience with this?
Answer: As of this writing (7/14/2011), we recommend the following solution for a multi-purpose 2011 Ford Fiesta roof rack canoe carrier system...
You'll need to first install a multi-purpose base rack system on the 2011 Ford Fiesta car top. With the general purpose roof rack in place, you can then attach any gear carriers, including a canoe carrier, to the crossbars for transporting your equipment. For your vehicle we highly recommend the Thule 480 Traverse roof rack system (includes a set of four Thule 480 Traverse Feet, set of 1503 Traverse Fit Kit clips and a pair of 50 inch load bars with end caps). You can optionally select longer load bars as well. Easy installation instructions included. Helpful install video also included on the product page.
We then highly recommend the Thule 579XT canoe carrier, which attaches directly to the 480 Traverse base rack system load bars. Includes four L-brackets, pair of load straps and pair of bow & stern tie-downs. Thule offers very handy products for tie-down points on your car. For both the front and rear of the car use the Thule 530 Quick Loop Strap (order 2, one for the front and one for the rear). Complete details on the Thule 530 Quick Loop Strap product page.
