The Yakima StrapThang Surfboard Rack (8004014) is the perfect "thang" for carrying your surfboards or windsurfers on Yakima Racks base roof rack systems. Quickly attaches to the round cross bars of any Yakima multi-purpose roof rack system. The Yakima Strap Thang is not compatible with factory car rack crossbars, Thule Racks, Inno Racks etc. Two surfboard straps and all mounting hardware included, everything needed to carry up to 2 surfboards or windsurf boards. We recommend using the Yakima StrapThang in combination with a pair of car rack crossbar pads (not included; see accessory add-ons below) for complete padded protection when loading and transporting. Carries up to two surfboards or sailboards.

Having gotten tired of strapping my board to my Yakima crossbars with standard loadstraps on top of crossbar pads, I finally decided to throw down and buy a proper surf rack. I wanted something simple to use that would load my boards quickly but that was also secure, obviously. Out of all the carriers I checked out, the StrapThang seemed the easiest to use. It is a pretty slick system and it hasn’t let me down. I sometimes haul a single board and other times two long boards, and it works just as well in both cases. The boards are held firmly in place and are easy to strap down and unstrap. To lock the surfboards, I use the Lashlock, which as far as I can tell, is the best surfboard lock out there

We highly recommend either the SteelCore lock straps or Lashlock windsurfer / surfboard lock system (not included; see accessory add-ons above) to lock your surfboards and sailboards to the rack and protect from theft when left unattended.
We recommend purchasing Yakima Accessory Lock Housing (not included; see accessory add-ons above) to lock Strap Thang to your base rack crossbars. Each Yakima Lock Housing unit requires one Yakima SKS lock core.
