 | 2009 Dodge Ram truck rack with bike racks - Inno RT101 pickup truckbed rack system (mounts to the 2009 Dodge Ram truck bed rails and includes a pair of 65 inch cross bars) / 2 Thule 594XT SideArm bike racks (mount to the Inno RT101 cross bars). All systems and components listed below... D.R. explains "I purchased the INNO truck bed rack for our 2009 Dodge Ram Crew Cab because of its lower profile and relative low cost. I had looked at the Yakima and the Thule truckbed truck rack mounts, but being relatively height disadvantaged (5' 10"), I wanted something that I could actually lift the bike onto the truckbed without a small ladder. Also, if I wanted to mount any actual bike racks to the mounting system I needed a less expensive system and was just about to engineer my own system before I found this solution.
The INNO truck rack with crossbars is a very simple system, easy to set up and is very secure. The only drawback is there is no locking mechanism, however it is an easy workaround by attaching a small lock through the fastener loop and over the crossbar. Since the rack sits fairly close to the top of the bed rails, bikes are easy to mount and take off while still having plenty of room underneath for other equipment. Of course the best part about this sytem is its about about $300 less than the Thule or Yakima truck racks.
Currently, I have two Thule SideArm mounts and one ATOC tandem bike rack mounted. The SideArm bike racks are by far the easiest and most secure mounting system I have used (I had used a friends and was very impressed). I hate taking off the front wheel of my mountain bike and this was the solution. I travelled from Denver to Moab with stops in Grand Junction and Fruita and the bikes were very secure and it was easy and fast to stop at different trails. Also carries the 29'ers well.
A few of pictures show the bike rack completely full and one picture is in Fruita, Colorado at the Kokopelli trailhead. All I need now is two more SideArm bike racks to accommodate my other daughters' bikes (3 daughters and my wife - 5 bikes total with 20", 24", 26" and 700cc wheel sizes) and I will have the complete bike hauling system for going camping, local trailheads and Tuesday night rides."
