Question: I'm looking for a Thule rack system and cargo box for my 2009 Ford Flex with a vista roof. I currently have no racking on the vehicle and have been advised I need a base rack to attach the cargo box. Someone said I should use the Thule 611 Boxter roof box. I think the Atlantis 2100 or 1800 might work just as well and are cheaper than the 611 Boxter.
Answer: As of this writing (1/31/2011), the Thule 480 Traverse roof rack is highly recommended for your 2009 Ford Flex vista sunroof cartop. Select the 58 inch length load bars. Also the Thule 1518 Traverse Fit Kit is the correct model to fit the 2009 Flex rooftop. Any roof boxes will work very well on the Flex rooftop. And yes, the Thule 2100 and 1800 Atlantis boxes will work nicely and will offer a huge amount of cargo carrying capacity.
In fact, any cargo boxes will work on the 480 Traverse cross bars. All roof mount luggage boxes are universal mounting, allowing you to choose the model that you like best, independent of whether it is the same manufacturer as the base rack system.
