Question: I'm looking for recommendations for a quality all-purpose base roof rack cross bars system to attach to the factory side rails of a 2010 Chevy Equinox. I'd like to add the crossbars so I can then attach gear carriers to carry sporting equipment.
Answer: As of this writing (6/6/2011), we highly recommend the following solutions as superb 2010 Chevrolet Equinox factory side rails mounting roof rack systems...
You will first need to install a multi-purpose base rack system on your 2010 Chevy Equinox factory side rails. This will provide the cross bars to enable you to then connect any gear carriers. The first option is from Thule Racks and is the Thule 45050 CrossRoad roof rack kit system (includes a Thule 450 CrossRoad Foot Pack and a pair of 50" cross bars with end caps, also includes a 4-pack of Thule locks). The regular Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack system (includes a Thule 450 CrossRoad Foot Pack and a pair of cross bars with end caps , does not include a 4-pack of Thule locks however, these need to be purchased separately). The regular Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack system is a great option to have for when you need to choose longer length cross bars for attaching several gear carriers. From Yakima Racks you can use the Yakima RailGrab roof rack system (includes four Yakima RailGrab Towers and a pair of cross bars with end caps, the 48" length cross bars are recommended for your vehicle).
With any of the base rack systems listed above installed as a 2010 Chevy Equinox roof rack on the side rails, you can then connect any gear carriers to the base rack cross bars for transporting your equipment. Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs?
