2007 Honda CRV Canoe Roof Rack
october 6, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Honda CRV Canoe Roof Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Honda CR-V
Question: Our canoe is 12' long with a 42" beam width and 82 lbs. We need a 2007 Honda CR-V roof rack to haul our 12' canoe placed upside down on the roof rack on some type of canoe carrier. The problem is that our Honda CR-V factory rack crossbars are only 40" in length, but we need to extend the bars to approx. 50". What do I need for this set-up?
Answer: We highly recommend replacing your current factory rack with the Thule 460 Podium roof rack system. This system is designed specifically for vehicles such as yours that have fixed attachment points on the rooftop provided by the vehicle manufacturer. The 460 Podium will replace your current 2007 Honda CR-V factory rack on your rooftop, and attaches to the same points your factory rack was installed on. The Thule 460 Podium system includes the Thule 460 Podium Foot Pack, a set of four Thule 3042 Fit Kit Brackets (these Fit Kit Brackets are specific to your Honda CRV) and two load bars. You will attach the canoe carrier directly to the 460 Podium front and rear cross bars. The 50 inch crossbars are the recommended length for your rooftop. This will allow enough space for your canoe with the 42" beam. You can then connect the Thule 579XT canoe rack directly to the Thule 460 Podium base rack system front and rear load bars. A superb canoe rack for transporting any canoe upside side resting on the gunwales. » view Thule 460 Podium car rack system » view Thule 579XT canoe rack Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2009 Honda Accord 2 door Kayak Roof Rack
october 5, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2009 Honda Accord 2 door Kayak Roof Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2009 Honda Accord 2 door
Question: I want to carry a kayak on my 2009 Honda Accord 2 door roof top. I realize that I will first need to install a base roof rack system on the rooftop and then attach the kayak rack to the base rack crossbars. But I looked at the Thule Racks fit guide and it looks like they have no car rack that works as a 2009 Honda Accord 2 door roof rack? Is this true, and if so do I have any other options.
Answer: You are correct that Thule Racks currently has no 2009 Honda Accord car rack system available for the 2 door model. However, Inno Racks offers an excellent option called the Inno IN-SU roof rack system. Fits your 09 Honda Accord 2 door perfectly. The Inno IN-SU system includes four Inno IN-SU Stays, four Inno K214 Fit Hooks (these Fit Hooks are specific to your vehicle) and two cross bars. You can then attach any Inno, Thule or Yakima kayak carriers directly to the front and rear cross bars.
Please note that because your 2009 2 door Honda Accord has a short roof line you will need to use the Inno IN-JK Joint Bars in combination with the IN-SU roof rack system. The IN-JK Joint Bars increase the distance between the front and rear crossbars for a very safe platform to allow you to then attach kayak carriers and other gear carriers. » view Inno INSU complete car rack system » view Inno INJK Joint bars Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2009 Ford Edge Roof Rack
august 12, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2009 Ford Edge Roof Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2009 Ford Edge
Question: My 2009 Ford Edge doesn't have any factory rack or siderails on the roof top currently. I am specifically interested in a silver style roof rack system that would give the car a nice modern european look. I don't really like all the black car racks that seem to be the only option available. Do I have any silver options?
Answer: Yes, in fact you have 2 options, currently, for a 2009 Ford Edge car rack system that features a silver finish. The first option is the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero roof rack system. Now this option offers sleek aerodynamic silver cross bars. However the Foot Pack (also known as Towers) are still black. You would need the RB53 53" Rapid Aero load bars and the Thule 2191 Fit Kit for this system on the 09 Ford Edge.
The second option is the Inno INSU roof rack system that comes in a silver color. Both the Inno INSU Stays (also known as Towers) and the crossbars are silver. You would need the B147 58" crossbars and K559 Fit Hooks for use on your Ford Edge. » view Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero car rack system » view Inno INSU complete car rack system (silver color) Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2003 Toyota Highlander Kayak Rack for Factory Bars
august 11, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2003 Toyota Highlander Kayak Rack for Factory Bars]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2003 Toyota Highlander
Question: I have a 10 foot Wilderness Perception Kayak that i can just barely lift and carry on my own. But I doubt that I can lift all the way onto the roof of the Toyota Highlander. The Toyota Highlander does have a factory rack installed with crossbars. Anything you can recommend that works on these factory bars and will make it easy to get my kayak up on top.
Answer: There are 3 excellent kayak rack options for making it easy to load your boat and are also compatible with your 2003 Toyota Highlander roof rack factory crossbars. They are the Thule 887XT SlipStream, Malone AutoLoader / Telos lift assist system and Malone Seawing / Stinger lift-assist system. 2009 Dodge Journey Bike Rack for Rear Hatch

Question: Im only interested in a trunk mount bike rack for my 2009 Dodge Journey. The problem is that it looks like Yakama racks and Tule racks don't make a 2009 Dodge Journey bike rack that fits on the rear hatch of the car. I want through the Tule racks and Yakama racks online fiment guides and they both say no fit for a rear hatch or trunk mount bike rack option. Any other options for me?
Answer: You'll be very happy to know that the Saris Bones trunk mount bike racks are designed to fit your 2009 Dodge Journey rear hatch perfectly. The 801 Saris Bones 3 (carries 3 bicycles) and 805 Saris Bones 2 (carriers 2 bicycles) both offer the bicycle rack industry's highest stability standards for rear mount bike carriers. They stay securely strapped down and in place at all times and no worrying about the bikes swinging around and hitting each other or the rear of the Dodge Journey either. Question: I'm looking for some kind of 2006 Saturn VUE roof rack system. But so far I've not found anything. I check both the Thule Racks and Yakima Racks fit guides and they are showing nothing available for an 06 Saturn VUE that has no factory rack or siderails or anything. Do I have any other options? Would really aprreciate some help.
Answer: Good news. Inno Racks, the very innovative Japanese car rack company that is gaining a lot of attention now here in the USA, has developed the Inno INSU roof rack system for you. Using the Inno K536 Fit Hooks with the Inno INSU Stays and the recommended Inno B127 50" cross bars, you have an excellent system for a 2006 Saturn VUE car rack. Coleman Camper Roof Rack and Fleetwood Pop Up Camper Rack
august 8, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![Coleman Camper Roof Rack and Fleetwood Pop Up Camper Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: fleetwood popup camper / coleman pop up camper
Question: Hello. I'm currently looking at buying a popup camper from either Coleman Campers or Fleetwood Campers. My question is what I would need to use for a Coleman camper roof rack or Fleetwood pop up camper roof rack? They have roof tracks on them and they look to be about 76" to 78" apart from each other. It looks like the longest crossbars from Yakima Racks aand Thule Racks will not work as crossbars for pop up camper racks?
Answer: Excellent question. You are correct about needing very long cross bars if you want to install a Fleetwood camper roof rack or Coleman popup camper rack. Luckily, Thule Racks makes a special very long load bar specifically for camper rack use. It is the Thule LB96 and it's 96" long. You will use this as part of the Thule 430 Tracker II roof rack system. You'll also need to select the Thule TK1 Tracker Kit option as these TK Tracker Kits work with the Fleetwood roof tracks and Coleman roof tracks. If interested in using the Yakima Control Towers roof rack system instead, be aware that as of this writing (August 8, 2009) Yakima currently does not have a crossbar long enough, but they plan to introduce Yakima 88 inch length bars beginning January 2010. These extra long bars will work great for Fleetwood camper racks and Coleman camper roof racks. » view Thule LB96 96" super long load bars page » view Thule 430 Tracker II complete rack system page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2006 Ford Focus Car Rack for Canoe
august 7, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2006 Ford Focus Car Rack for Canoe]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2006 Ford Focus 3-door model
Question: I have some concerns about carrying a canoe on this 2 door. Seems like the roof is pretty short and maybe cannot handle long stuff like a canoe? Of course want to defer to the ORS Racks Direct experts on whether I can carry a canoe on the 06 Ford Focus 3 door version and what specific canoe car rack system you recommend.
Answer: You can absolutely carry a canoe on that car! We highly recommend the Thule 400XT Aero roof rack system for your 2006 Ford Focus 3 door. Also note that because your car has a short roof line, you will also need to use the Thule 477 Short Roof adapter kit. This allows the Thule 400XT Aero front and rear load bars to be distanced further apart, creating a safe foundation for transporting gear (especially important for long items such as a canoe). You can then connect the Thule 579XT canoe carrier to the Thule 400XT Aero base rack system load bars (the Thule 50 inch load bars are the recommended length for your car). You will also receive the Thule 2063 Fit Kit with the Thule 400XT Aero car rack system (these Fit Kits are designed specifically for use on your 2006 Ford Focus 3 door model). 2009 Honda Fit Roof Rack for Surfboards and Bikes
august 5, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2009 Honda Fit Roof Rack for Surfboards and Bikes]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2009 Honda Fit
Question: Help vacation for me is approaching fast! Problem is I don't even know if there is a 2009 Honda Fit roof rack solution out there that will allow me to carry bikes and surfboards. Can you shed any light on whether there is a system made for the 2009 Honda Fit roof top?
Answer: You are in luck friend! The Inno IN-SU car rack system is an excellent choice for a 2009 Honda Fit car rack system. This setup includes four Inno IN-SU Stays, a set of four Inno K358 Fit Hooks (made specifically for your 09 Honda Fit) and a pair of Inno Racks crossbars. The recommended B127 50" length crossbars will probably offer enough room for your bikes and surfboards. If you are carrying 3 or more bikes next to the surfboard rack then you'll want the longer B147 58" bars. Definitely check out the Inno INA744 BoardLocker surfboard rack and all of Inno Racks roof mount bike carriers. All attach directly to the Inno IN-SU car rack crossbars. Locks are included with everything too! That's a big time bonus that will save you some serious money. Thule Racks and Yakima Racks require you to buy locks extra, which is costly.

1998 Jeep Cherokee Kayak Roof Rack for Hullavator
august 4, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![1998 Jeep Cherokee Kayak Roof Rack for Hullavator]() | vehicle year / make / model: 1998 Jeep Cherokee
Question: I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee roof rack factory crossbars set up currently. My quesion is whether or not I can install two Thule 897XT Hullavater kayak racks to the factory rack? I've tried out the Hullavater on a friend's car rack and I really love how it works and makes it so easy to load / unload the kayak. I have to transport 2 kayaks so I need 2 Thule 897XT Hullavater kayak carriers.
Answer: Oh yeah you are right about how simple it is to get a kayak up onto the car roof using the Thule 897XT Hullavator kayak rack! The issue is that this carrier will not work on factory racks. So you'll first need to replace your 1998 Jeep Cherokee factory rack with the Thule 430 Tracker II roof rack system. This is very simple to do. Attaches directly to your 1998 Jeep Cherokee roof rack factory tracks, replacing your current noncompatible factory rack. You'll use the set of included Thule TK2 Tracker Kits. They easily connect right to the roof tracks that the factory rack was mounted to. The Thule 50" load bars are normally the recommended length for your Jeep Cherokee. But because you need two sets of Thule 897XT Hullavator kayak racks for hauling 2 kayaks, you should select the 58" length load bars instead. You'll then have enough room to mount 2 sets of Thule 897XT Hullavator kayak carriers.

I realize I could mount cheap foam blocks for a canoe but ideally interested in something more solid and sturdy. Also hoping the canoe rack is easy to install. Anything out there for me?

But so far I haven't had any luck from either Tule Racks or Yakima Racks. I'm having a hard time finding anything that is compatible. 2007 Jeep Compass Roof Rack for Kayaks
july 14, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Jeep Compass Roof Rack for Kayaks]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Jeep Compass
Question: I have a 2007 Jeep Compass that includes what appear to be some type of factory siderails on the rooftop. The problem is that they are solid and have no holes or openings that would allow an after-market roofrack cross bar system to attach to these 2007 Jeep Compass factory side rails. FYI, I do already have in my possession two Tule Racks j-style kayak carriers and would really like a compatible roofrack system that would allow me to attach my Tule kayak racks. Thanks for any help on this.
Answer: The 2007 Jeep Compass side rails are really just for 'rugged good looks'. But Jeep did include four fixed point attachments on these "side rails". This allows for the mounting of the Thule 460 Podium roof rack system to these fixed attachment points. The Thule 3067 Fit Kit brackets are the specific Fit Kit made for the 2007 Jeep Compass (these Fit Kit brackets are included with the Thule 460 Podium complete roof rack system) and connect to the 2007 Jeep Compass fixed-points. Question: Hello, I own a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 regular cab. I recently purchased a 14' kayak and would like to buy a kayak truck rack system to use with it. I already have a Thule kayak rack that I can use with the system. I would prefer to use a hitch mounted bed extender (like the Thule 997 Goal Post or Yakama Racks DryDock) and a half rack on the Dodge Ram 1500 cab of the pickup truck. Since I have a fiberglass truck bed cap, this will allow me access to the truck bed while not having to remove the kayak. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Answer: We highly recommend the Thule 400XT Aero Half Pack system / Thule 997 Goal Post combination. You can then attach your kayak rack to the Thule 400XT Aero Half Pack system / Thule 997 GoalPost combination load bars. The Thule 2100 Fit Kit will come included with the Thule 400XT Aero Half Pack system. Also the 58" length load bar is the recommended size to match the load bar included with the Thule 997 GoalPost hitch rack. » view Thule 400XT Aero Half Pack system page » view Thule 997 Goal Post hitch rack page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2007 Honda Odyssey Kayak and Canoe Rack
july 5, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Honda Odyssey Kayak and Canoe Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Honda Odyssey
Question: Looking for some help in selecting a 2007 Honda Odyssey roof rack system that will allow me to carry a canoe and a kayak at the same time. The 2007 Honda Odyssey does already have the factory side rails on it (the 2 bars that run parallel to each other from the front to back of the car on the driver side and passenger side. Thanks!
Answer: We highly recommend the Thule 450 Crossroad complete base rack system. Attaches directly to your 2007 Honda Oddyssey factory rack side rails, converting your factory rack side rails into a sturdy base rack system capable of safely transporting all your gear. Includes a set of four Thule 450 Crossroad Feet and a pair of load bars. The 58" load bars are the recommended length for transporting a canoe and kayak.
Next, we highly recommend for your needs the Thule 835PRO Hull-A-Port kayak rack. Uses a j-cradle design for easy loading/unloading of your kayak. Uses up very little load bar space so you'll have room to attach the canoe rack next to it. The Thule 835XTR Hull-A-Port is exactly the same as the 835PRO except the cradles cannot be folded down.
Finally, you can then attach the Thule 579XT canoe rack directly to the Thule 450 Crossroad base rack cross bars. Includes a pair of heavy-duty securing straps. Also includes a pair of Thule 885 Quick-Draw tie-down straps to fully secure the front and rear of the canoe for very safe and worry free canoe transport.
Another very handy accessory is the Thule 854 Water Slide Mat. Simply attaches to the rear load bar and simultaneously protects the rear of your vehicle and makes it easier to slide the canoe into position on the canoe rack. » view Thule 450 Crossroad car rack system page » view Thule 835PRO Hull-a-Port kayak rack page » view Thule 835XTR Hull-a-Port kayak rack page » view Thule 597XT canoe rack page » view Thule 854 WaterSlide Mat page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2006 Ford Explorer Canoe Rack
june 18, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2006 Ford Explorer Canoe Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2006 Ford Explorer
Question: I have factory installed siderails on the roof of my 2006 Ford Explorer. There are no cross members however. What solution do you recommend for adding a car rack setup to carry a canoe. I would like a system that allows for one person loading if possible. I want something that connects to the Ford Explorer factory mounted side rails.
Answer: You will first need a multi-purpose base roofrack system that attaches to the Ford Explorer factory side rails. You'll then be able to connect the canoe rack to the multi-purpose base rack system cross members. An excellent solution is the Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack. You can then connect the Thule 579XT canoe rack directly to the Thule 450 Crossroad roofrack cross members.
As far as addressing a method to make it easier to load the canoe by yourself, we highly recommend also getting the Thule 854 WaterSlide mat. This accessory connects to the rear cross member on the Thule 450 Crossroad base rack system. Then you lay it flat across the rear of the car roof and down the back of the car. Then you can just lift the front of the canoe up onto the Thule 854 Water Slide and then you can lift the rear of the canoe and slide it onto the canoe rack brackets. The Thule 854 Waterslide protects your car from coming in contact with the canoe and also the mat has a non-slip underside so it won't bunch up or move around while you are sliding the canoe up into position on the canoe rack. » view Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack page » view Thule 579XT canoe rack page » view Thule 854 WaterSlide Mat page » view Thule 579XT customer install pictures » view Thule 450 CrossRoad customer install pictures Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2009 Pontiac Vibe Canoe Rack - Tandem Bike Rack
june 10, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2009 Pontiac Vibe Canoe Rack - Tandem Bike Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2009 Pontiac Vibe
Question: I need some type of roofrack system to carry my Burley tandem bike on the 09 Pontiac Vibe. It doesn't have any kind of factory roofrack rack on it currently. Ideally, base rack would work for a canoe also. Thanks for the help!
Answer: We highly recommend the Inno IN-SU roof rack system as a 2009 Pontiac Vibe car rack solution. You will then be able to connect any tandem bike racks directly to the Inno IN-SU roof rack crossbars. The Thule 558 tandem bike rack is an excellent option. Also the RockyMounts R4 tandem bike rack connects directly to the base rack crossbars. Same great features as the Thule Racks tandem bike rack option and you save some money. Also the Thule 579XT canoe rack will connect directly to the Inno square crossbars. If you intend to carry a canoe and tandem bike at the same time then you will want to choose the longer B147 58" Inno bars, otherwise the Inno B107 46" length bars will be fine. 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Roof Rack System
may 25, 2009 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Roof Rack System]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer 4-door
Question: I'm looking to build up a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer roof rack (its the 4 door version). Can't seem to find anything compatible though. Any ideas out there for a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer car rack. I already have Thule bars but can't find the right base roof rack system components that work on the Mitsubishi Lancer roof top. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Answer: Another excellent example of why Inno Racks are fast becoming a household name in America! While neither Thule Racks nor Yakima Racks offer a compatible Mitsubishi Lancer roof rack solution, Inno Racks offers the Inno IN-SU roof rack system for the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer. The same type of system as the Thule 400XT Aero and Yakima Q Towers, except that Inno Racks calls their IN-SU components IN-SU Stays (instead of Thule 400XT Foot Pack or Yakima Q Towers) and Inno SU Fit Hooks (instead of Thule Fit Clips or Yakima Q Clips).
Since you already have the Thule load bars, you will only need the Inno IN-SU Stays and the Inno K336 Fit Hooks. Thule square bars have the exact same dimensions as Inno cross bars. Another cool thing about Inno Racks is that the Stays come with locks included. Thule Racks and Yakima Racks require you to purchase these at an additional cost. Inno IN-SU Stays are also available in both black and silver color choices, another nice option to consider (Inno bars are also available in black and silver color options).

2008 Audi A4 Avant Bike Rack and Canoe Rack
october 7, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2008 Audi A4 Avant Bike Rack and Canoe Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2008 Audi A4 Avant wagon
Question: I drive a 2008 Audi A4 Avant wagon with factory rails and now looking to install a roof rack system that'll let me to transport a road and mtn bike plus a canoe. The issue is I'm most interested in a Thule Racks Aero setup that uses the oval bars, I believe it is the Thule 450R Rapid Crossroad that I need for the 2008 Audi A4 Avant wagon. My research shows that no canoe racks will not attach to these oval bars however. The Thule 579XT canoe rack only connects to the regular Thule square load bars. I will go with the regular square bars car rack option if that is the only model that will allow me to attach a canoe rack, but if there is something else out there I can use as a canoe carrier on the Rapid Aero bars I'd love to hear about it!
Answer: You are right on about both the Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack system (use the 50 inch load bars) and the Thule 450R Rapid CrossRoad car rack system (select the RB47 load bars) working perfectly on your 2008 Audi A4 Avant wagon factory siderails. All of Thule Racks roof mount bike carriers will attach to the Thule square load bars directly, while you'll need to use a set of Thule Xadapt Kits to attach the bike racks to the Rapid Aero load bars.
Now about that canoe rack... we definitely suggest you check out the Malone BigFoot canoe carrier system. This carrier is fully compatible with the Thule Rapid Aero load bars on the 450R Rapid Crossroad system, no need for any extra adapters or anything. If you decide to go with the regular Thule 450 Crossroad system then the Thule 579XT canoe rack will connect to the square load bars on that system.
Whatever you choose, just attach the canoe rack to the center of the load bars and then mount a bike rack on each side of the canoe rack. This is an excellent configuration that will allow you to use all the gear carriers at the same time and still make it easy to load all your gear into their respective carriers.

2007 Honda Fit Car Rack for Bikes, Kayak and Skis
october 6, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Honda Fit Car Rack for Bikes, Kayak and Skis]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Honda Fit
Question: Tyring to do the right thing and go green by down-sizing to a 2007 Honda Fit. Now I'm stuck with trying to figure out how I'm going to haul my bikes, skis and kayak. Not sure where to start to select the best configuration for a 2007 Honda Fit roof rack to carry kayak, bikes and skis.
Answer: We just happened to install a 2007 Honda Fit roof rack system for transporting a kayak, bikes and skis!
Began with the Thule 400XT Aero roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four 400XT Aero Feet, four FitKit 2180 Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specificly made for the 2007 Honda Fit) and two load bars (the 50" load bars are the length recommended for the Honda Fit). The kayak, bike and ski carriers attach to this pair of load bars.
Next, the Thule 835PRO Hull-A-Port kayak rack was used. This is a great universal kayak rack attachment that uses a j-cradle design for easy loading/unloading of your kayak. The Thule 835PRO kayak rack cradles the kayak in a semi-vertical fashion, using up very little load bar space to allow you to also connect other gear carriers, such as bike racks or ski racks, at the same time. The all-new design of this carrier also allows the cradles to fold down when not in use, avoiding any clearance issues such as a garage etc. Another great option is the Thule 835XTR Hull-A-Port kayak rack which is exactly the same as the Thule 835PRO except the cradles cannot be folded down on the 835XTR model.
For the bike rack the Thule 518 Echelon fork mount bike rack was used. Premium design and function and delivers quick and easy loading. Holds the bike very securely when in transit. Works with all styles of mountain bikes, full suspension and disc-brake compatible too. There is no other fork mount carrier available that will get your bike loaded up and secured this fast every time.
And finally, the Thule 91724 ski/snowboard rack will be mounted to the base rack load bars during the winter months to carry snowboards and skis.

2007 Mercury Grand Marquis Roof Rack for Skis
october 4, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Mercury Grand Marquis Roof Rack for Skis]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis
Question: I'm interested in a complete ski rack system for my 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis, but after checking out your Thule and Yakima fit guides it looks like their might not be a Grand Marquis ski rack available. Is this true, and/or are there alternative ski rack systems you might recommend?
Answer: You are correct that Yakima Racks and Thule Racks do not make a ski rack system that is compatible with your 2007 Grand Marquis, as for whatever reason, they never developed Fit Kit clips (Thule) or Q clips (Yakima) for the 2007 Grand Marquis. However, you should definitely check out both the Malone HandiRack inflatable roof rack system and the SteelCore Soft Rack-Travel Rack as superb solutions for carrying skis, snowboards, ski bags and snowboard bags. You can also carry all kinds of other items including a canoe, kayak, surfboards, luggage, lumber etc.
The Malone HandiRack inflatable roof rack system is just that, it inflates to provide a nice protective cushion to carry your skis. Run the straps through the inside of the car and then back over the top to secure the HandiRack to the roof. Then place skis, snowboards etc on inflated pads and then secure them down with the straps and you are all set.
And the SteelCore Soft Rack-Travel Rack locking roof rack system works similar to the Malone HandiRack, just place the straps through the inside of the car and then back over the top of the roof. Then slide the rack pads with integrated locking rack straps onto the roof straps before tightening down and locking those straps. Place the skis on the roof pads, tighten and lock the straps.
Both of these roof rack systems are ideal for using a rental car ski rack when on ski trips etc.

2003 Nissan Frontier Canoe Truck Rack
september 25, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2003 Nissan Frontier Canoe Truck Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2003 Nissan Frontier crew cab
Question: I'm interested in a canoe rack system for my 2003 Nissan Frontier crew cab pickup truck. Specifically, I'd like to utilize my 2 inch trailer hitch receiver and install a t-bar style rack on the trailer hitch and a roof rack with a crossbar on the cab roof. Can I do that on my Nissan Frontier to carry a 14.5' canoe?
Answer: This is a great option for carrying a canoe on your Nissan Frontier. First you want to go with the Yakima Q Tower Half Pack roof rack system for the Frontier cab. It includes a pair of Yakima Q20 clips (these Yakima Q Clips are specific to your Nissan Frontier), two upright Yakima Q Towers and a single cross bar. This will be the front cross bar that you will connect the canoe carrier to. The 58 inch crossbar is the recommended length for your pickup and will offer enough crossbar space for your canoe.
Then you attach the Yakima DryDock to the rear 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. You will attach the canoe carrier to this as well. You will also need to order a single cross bar to work in combination with the DryDock (available at the bottom of the DryDock product page) Choose the same 58" length crossbar as you are using on the front Yakima Q Tower Half Pack system.
Finally, you can then choose the Yakima Gunwale Brackets canoe rack. Connects directly to the Yakima Q Tower Half Pack system front cross bar and Yakima DryDock rear cross bars. Four Gunwale brackets included and two heavy-duty padded straps included also. For total transport safety we recommend the pair of Yakima bow/stern tie down straps (see accessories at the bottom of Gunwale Brackets product page) for your canoe.

2002 BMW 525 Roof Rack with LP11 Landing Pads
september 21, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2002 BMW 525 Roof Rack with LP11 Landing Pads]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2002 BMW 525 sedan
Question: I was told I have factory settings or mounting points or something (car currently has no factory rack or anything on it) on the top of my 2002 BMW 525 and that I can use the Yakima Control Towers system for a cleaner look (which I prefer) instead of the Yakima Q Towers car rack system that uses the clips on the door wells.
Answer: Yes the Yakima Control Towers roof rack system is now an excellent option for your 2002 BMW 525 sedan. We highly recommend this system for your vehicle. Using the set of four Yakima #11 Landing Pads (included with Control Towers), the Control Tower multi-purpose base rack system connects directly to the four pre-placed points (called fixpoints) in your roof that BMW has provided to allow this rack system to install effortlessly and securely. Includes four Control Towers, four LP11 #11 Landing Pads and a pair of cross bars. Easy to follow instructions make the installation a snap (no drilling required). The 48 inch cross bars are the recommended length for your vehicle.
Yakima has recently issued the Yakima LP11 #11 Landing Pads to take advantage of the many cars now arriving off the factory assembly lines with fixpoints included on the rooftop. 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix Canoe and Bike Rack
september 13, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2005 Pontiac Grand Prix Canoe and Bike Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 door sedan
Question: In a perfect world I would love to be a able to install a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix car rack system that would enable me to carry 2 bikes and 2 canoes simultaneously. I do realize, however, this configuration just may not be possible on this vehicle. So at the very least I'd like to transport the 2 bicycles. But can't hurt to inquire about a solution to carry everything right?
Answer: You can install a roof rack on your 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix to carry 2 canoes and 2 bikes. The Thule 400XT Aero roof rack system is the place to start. No matter what gear carriers you plan to mount on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four Thule 2146 Fit Kit Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix) and two load bars (please note the 78" load bars are the recommended length for transporting 2 canoes and 2 bikes; if you decide to go with just bikes then the 50 inch length bars are fine). You will attach the canoe carriers and bike carriers to the front and rear load bars.
For your 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix it is also very important to use the Thule 477 Short Roof Adapter Kit in combination with the Thule 400XT Aero base rack system. The Thule 477 Short Roof Adapter Kit quickly installs and allows the two load bars on the Thule 400XT Aero system to be distanced further apart from each other, allowing for a stable platform for safely carrying any item on the roof rack including canoes and bikes.
Then you'll want to connect two sets of the Thule 579XT canoe racks to the Thule 400XT Aero load bars. Then you can mount any of Thule Racks roof mount bike racks to the load bars as well. Personal preferences are usually the most important factor when choosing a bike rack best for your needs. Roof mount bike racks are available in two styles. The first option are upright mount bike racks (no need to take any wheels off before loading the bicycle onto this type of bike rack) and the second option are fork mount bike racks (you take the front wheel off and attach the bike fork to a quick release skewer on the bike rack fork block). » view example Pontiac Grand Prix roof rack install page » view Thule 400XT Aero car rack page » view Thule 477 Short Roof adapter page » view all Thule fork mount bike racks » view all Thule upright mount bike racks » view Thule 579XT canoe rack page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2007 Nissan Versa Bike Rack and Ski Rack
september 6, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Nissan Versa Bike Rack and Ski Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Nissan Versa 4 door sedan
Question: What do you recommend as the ideal 2007 Nissan Versa roof rack solution for carrying 2 mountain bikes during the summer and a couple pairs of skis during the winter?
Answer: First things first, you will need to install a multi-purpose base rack system on your Nissan Versa sedan. Thule Racks makes two excellent options to choose from. The Thule 400XT Aero car rack system is the first option. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four Thule 2183 Fit Kit Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 2007 Nissan Versa sedan) and two load bars (please note the 50" load bars are the recommended length for your rooftop). You will attach the ski and bike carriers to the front and rear load bars. The second option is the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero car rack system and it works exactly the same way as the regular Thule 400XT Aero system (uses the same Thule 2183 Fit Kit clips too) except that it uses the elliptical Thule Rapid Aero load bars (the RB47 Rapid Aero bars are the length necessary for your 07 Versa sedan), which are very sleek and aerodynamic offering a more low-profile, modern and premium appearance. You will attach the ski and bike carriers to these front and rear load bars as well.
You can also choose from any of Thule Racks excellent roof mount bike racks. All connect to the Thule 400XT Aero and Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero base rack system load bars. Your personal preferences will be the primary factor in deciding which Thule bike racks best meet your needs. Please note that certain Thule roof mount bike carriers require a set of Thule Xadapt adapters when mounting to the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero load bars. All roof mount Thule bike carriers mount directly to the regular Thule 400XT Aero load bars however. And, finally, for transporting a pair of skis we highly recommend the Thule 91724 Flat Top ski rack. Attaches directly to both the Thule 400XT Aero load bars and the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero bars, no adapters necessary. Also includes a pair of locks to secure your skis and poles inside the rack.

2006 Toyota Tacoma Truck Rack for OC-2 Outrigger
august 30, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2006 Toyota Tacoma Truck Rack for OC-2 Outrigger]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2006 Toyota Tacoma extended cab
Question: I am seeking a solution to transport a very long OC-2 outrigger canoe in the truckbed of my 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. I'm worried that just a truck rack in the truck bed won't be a safe enough foundation for the long OC-2. Can I use something on the Tacoma cab roof as well to make it more stable?
Answer: Yes you can absolutely combine a rack support system on the cab roof for further stability when carrying the long OC-2 outrigger canoe. For the truckbed we highly recommend the The Thule 421 Xsporter truck rack system. You'll also need to use the Thule XK1 adapter kit with the 421 Xsporter on the 2006 Toyota Tacoma. Then for the Toyota Tacoma cab roof install the Thule 400XT Aero half-pack system. The Thule 400XT Aero half-pack system includes two Thule 400XT Feet, two Thule 2160 Fit Kit clips (made specifically for your '06 Tacoma) and a single load bar (choose the 58 inch length load bar). This will provide a very stable platform, when used in combination with the Thule 421 Xsporter, for transporting your OC-2.

2007 Honda Odyssey Hitch Bike Rack and Ski Rack
august 24, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Honda Odyssey Hitch Bike Rack and Ski Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Honda Odyssey
Question: We are looking for a rack to carry 4 bikes and very much prefer a hitch mount model. Also if there is a way to have the same hitch bike rack carry skis and snowboards, that would be a bonus! The most economical option would be appreciated too. Thank you very much!
Answer: For your needs we highly recommend the Thule 914 Roadway hitch bike rack. This is a superb fold down hitch bike rack with plenty of features at a value price. Transports up to 4 bikes and offers excellent stability, durability and is very well constructed. The optional Thule 955 No Sway cages also ensure the bikes won't swing into each other or the back of your vehicle. We also recommend the optional Thule STL2 SnugTite lock to lock the hitch rack to the car and the optional Thule 538 Cable lock to lock the bikes to rack itself. The Thule 914 Roadway bike rack will also work on both 2" and 1.25" hitches with no extra adapters or anything required. If you are interested in transporting skis and snowboards too, the Thule 987XT ski carrier is a superb attachment for the Thule 914 Roadway hitch rack, allowing you to conveniently carry your skis and snowboards on the Thule 914 Roadway hitch rack during the winter.

Question: I am trying to figure out if the Saris Bones RS locking trunk bike rack is compatible with my 2008 Subaru Legacy sedan. If not, are there other racks you could recommend for me?
Answer: Unfortunately the Saris Bones RS is not compatible with your 2008 Subaru Legacy sedan. However, both the Saris Bones 3 trunk mount bike rack and Saris Bones 2 trunk mount bike rack are excellent alternatives that work very well on your car. These bike racks are considered to have the industry's highest stability standards. Racks stay securely strapped at all times and the bikes won't swing around and hit each other or the rear of the vehicle. Combines both beautiful design and rugged dependability. 2007 Saturn Ion Roof Rack
august 18, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Saturn Ion Roof Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Saturn Ion
Question: I've been unable to determine if Yakima Racks has a compatible fit for my 2007 Saturn Ion. I am familiar with Yakima Racks as I've used their products in the past, so I'd be first interested to know if Yakima does have anything available for my 2007 Saturn Ion. However, if there is nothing I was hoping you'd be able to recommend other car rack companies that have a compatible 2007 Saturn Ion roof rack system.
Answer: Unfortunately as of this posting Yakima Racks does not make a roof rack system that works on the 2007 Saturn Ion. However, Thule Racks does have a couple of superb options we definitely recommend you check out...
The Thule 400XT Aero roof rack system is the first option for you to consider. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four Thule 2139 Fit Kit Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 2007 Saturn Ion) and two load bars (the 50" load bars are the recommended length for the 07 Saturn Ion rooftop). You can then attach any of the various Thule Racks roof mount gear carriers to the front and rear load bars.
And the second option is the very stylish looking Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero complete base rack system. Works exactly the same way as the regular Thule 400XT Aero system (uses the same Thule 2139 Fit Kit clips too) except that it uses the elliptical Thule Rapid Aero load bars (the RB47 Rapid Aero bars are the length necessary for the 07 Satun ion), which are very sleek and aerodynamic offering a more low-profile, modern and premium appearance. You can then attach any of the various Thule roof mount gear carriers to these front and rear load bars as well.

2005 Mini Cooper S Rear Mount Locking Bike Rack
august 14, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2005 Mini Cooper S Rear Mount Locking Bike Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2005 Mini Cooper S
Question: I'm very interested in the best options for a 2005 Mini Cooper S rear mount bike rack system. I will be transporting a mountain bike and road bike (maybe a 3rd bike sometimes if I have a friend along). There is no trailer hitch receiver mounted on the Mini Cooper S currently, so I would need to have one installed if a hitch bike rack is what you feel I should go with. It is very important that the rack locks to the car so a hitch rack is probably the way to go vs. a trunk bike rack which I don't think is lockable to the car?
Answer: The Saris 851 Bones RS trunk bike rack is the option for you. There is simply no other rear mounting rack on the market that performs like the Bones RS! Besides fitting your 2005 Mini Cooper S perfectly, you will never have to remove it because this trunk bike rack locks to your car. The Saris Bones RS is also considered to have the highest stability standards of any trunk rack. Installs very easily and the Bones RS stays securely strapped at all times, no need need to have to continue readjusting the straps as you would need to do on other trunk mount bike racks. The cradles prevent the bikes from swinging around and hitting each other or the rear of the vehicle. Combines both beautiful design styling and rugged dependability. Easy to follow instructions included. The Saris Bones RS holds up to 3 bikes. » view Saris 851 Bones RS bike trunk rack page » view Saris Bones RS video demo Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2005 Subaru Forester Trunk Bike Rack for 2 Bikes
august 11, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2005 Subaru Forester Trunk Bike Rack for 2 Bikes]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2005 Subaru Forester
Question: I want to move away from the roof bike rack I'm currently using on my 2005 Subaru Forester and would instead like a much easier to access (I'm only 5' 3" tall) and load trunk mount bike rack to carry a mountain bike and road bike. Very important that it is sturdy and reliable as I plan to use it often.
Answer: You'll want to go with either the Yakima King Joe 2 or Thule 961XT trunk mount bike racks. Both offer the highest standards for reliability, stability and ease of use. The included Yakima SwitchBlade cradles on the King Joe 2 make it very easy to load both road bikes and mtn bikes, and they prevent the bikes from swinging around and hitting each other or the rear of your car. Thule Racks offers the similar T3 Cradles with No-Sway Cages on the 961XT to eliminate bike swing too. These racks are also the best option for anyone using a trunk bike rack often because the 6 strap system tightens down firmly and won't come loose over time like most other trunk bike racks end up doing. The Quick Trigger Hub on the KingJoe 2 makes it very easy to set the bike rack into perfect position on your 2005 Subaru Forester (the instructions tell you how to set the Hub for any make and model vehicle out there so its easy to switch the rack over to another car if you ever need to). And again, Thule Racks offers the very similar Fit Dial mechanism to accomplish the same tasks. If you want to carry 3 bikes you can go with the Yakima King Joe 3 or Thule 962XT Speedway versions instead. » view Yakima King Joe 2 bike trunk rack page » view Thule 961XT Speedway 2 bike trunk rack page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2006 Ford Ranger Truck Rack for 2 Canoes
august 7, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2006 Ford Ranger Truck Rack for 2 Canoes]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2006 Ford Ranger super cab
Question: I need to transport 2 16 foot canoes in the truck bed of my 2006 Ford Ranger extended cab pickup truck. What do you suggest I use to accomplish this task? FYI, I'd like to have full access to the truckbed even while the canoes are loaded so I can carry other cargo gear. I believe the canoes would need to be high enough to extend over the cab roof without any obstructions?
Answer: There are two very popular methods to choose from to carry canoes on truck racks. The first way is to use a truck rack system in the pickup truckbed only. The second way is to use a single crossbar on the cab roof and a t-bar style rack in a rear hitch receiver.
TRUCKBED RACK SYSTEM
For your 2006 Ford Ranger extended cab the Yakima Outdoorsman 300 (compact size) truck bed rack system is a superb option. The Yakima Outdoorsman Towers are sold as a half set so you will need to be sure to get two half sets of Outdoorsman 300 Towers to make a complete set of 4 Towers for the front and rear of your Ford Ranger truck bed. You will also need to purchase a pair of 78 inch cross bars to use with the Outdoorsman Towers (this length is necessary for carrying 2 canoes at the same time). You can then connect the Yakima canoe carriers directly to the two cross bars. Easy to follow installation instructions included. This truck rack is simple to install with no drilling required. The Towers quickly clamp onto the bed siderails. You can then choose the Yakima Gunwale Brackets Canoe Carrier. Connects directly to Outdoorsman 300 truck rack front and rear cross bars. Four Gunwale brackets included and two heavy-duty padded straps included also. For carrying 2 canoes you will just need to get 2 sets of Yakima Gunwale Brackets canoe carrier.
CAB ROOF CROSS BAR & HITCH MOUNT T-BAR
For this option you would want to go with the Yakima Q Tower half pack system for your Ford Ranger cab roof. This includes a pair of Q Towers, a pair of Yakima Q25 clips (these are made specifically for your 2006 Ford Ranger) and a single crossbar (get the 78 inch length crossbar for carrying 2 canoes). Then you will need the Yakima DryDock t-bar style rack that attaches to a 2" trailer hitch receiver. You'll need to get a 78 inch length crossbar to attach to the DryDock. Then you just attach the Yakima Gunwale Brackets (already mentioned above) to the crossbars on this setup and you are good to go with carrying 2 canoes.

2004 Toyota Sienna Kayak Rack for Side Rails

Question: I am very new at this and interested in the Thule 897XT Hullavator for my kayak but am not sure what I would need to purchase for crossrails on my 2004 Toyota Sienna. It does have a factory rack currently.
Answer: The Thule 897XT Hullavator side-loading kayak carrier is without a doubt the most user friendly kayak rack available for one person to effortlessly load and unload a kayak from any vehicle roof top. However, the Thule 897XT Hullavater is not compatible with factory rack crossbars. It is compatible with Thule cross bars and Yakima round bars only. Therefore, we highly recommend the Thule 450 Crossroad complete base rack system for your 2004 Toyota Sienna. This system attaches directly to the Toyota Sienna factory rack side rails, converting your factory rack side rails into a sturdy base rack system that is compatible with the Thule 897XT Hullavator and also capable of safely transporting your kayak. Includes a set of four Thule 450 Crossroad Feet and a pair of load bars. The 50" load bars are the recommended length for the 2004 Toyota Sienna. You can then attach the Thule 897XT Hullavator to the 450 CrossRoad load bars.
Another superb option is the Thule 450R Rapid CrossRoad complete base rack system. The Thule 450R Rapid Crossroad car rack works exactly the same way as the regular Thule 450 Crossroad system except that it uses the elliptical Thule Rapid Aero load bars (the Thule RB47 Rapid Aero bars are the length necessary for the 2004 Toyota Sienna), which are very sleek and aerodynamic offering a more low-profile, modern and premium appearance. july 23, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2008 Ford Ranger Truck Rack for Rowboat and Canoe]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2008 Ford Ranger ext. cab
Question: I'm looking for a 2008 Ford Ranger truck bed truck rack system for my 17 ft canoe or 12 ft x 4 ft wide aluminum row boat, would only be carrying one at a time, also would like to be able to remove the truck rack if I need to when not in use. The 2008 Ford Ranger is the extended cab version. No truck shell or anything in the truck bed.
Answer: We highly recommend the Thule 421 Xsporter pickup truck bed truck rack as an excellent option for transporting a canoe or aluminum rowboat in the truckbed of your 2008 Ford Ranger. 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer Roof Rack System

Question: I have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with the factory rack currently installed. I would like to carry various items on the vehicle at once, anything from bikes to kayaks & canoe and luggage + camping gear and stuff. Is the factory rack going to be able to handle all this?
Answer: You will in fact need to replace your factory rack on your 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer with a compatible and load rated base rack system that can handle transporting all that gear and equipment. The Yakima Control Towers Complete Roof Rack System is engineered to fit your vehicle perfectly and is very quick to install. Using the set of Yakima #1 (LP1) Landing Pads (specifically made for your vehicle and included with Control Towers), the Control Tower multi-purpose base rack system connects directly to your factory rack tracks, replacing your factory rack with a compatible and load rated system for transporting your gear. Easy to follow instructions make the installation a snap (the Yakima LP1 Landing Pads simply snap into the factory rack tracks, no drilling required). The Yakima 48 inch cross bars are the recommended length for the 06 Chevy Trailblazer rooftop. 2004 Chrysler Pacifica Luggage Roof Rack
july 8, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2004 Chrysler Pacifica Luggage Roof Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2004 Chrysler Pacifica
Question: I'm having a very difficult time finding a car rack that fits my 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. It currently has no factory rack or anything installed on it. I'm specifically looking for a car rack system for carrying luggage.
Answer: You need to look to Thule Racks to find a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica roof rack for luggage or transporting any other kinds of gear. The Thule 430 Tracker II Complete Roof Rack Base System is engineered to fit your 04 Chrysler Pacifica perfectly and is very quick to install. It attaches directly to the fixpoints located on your roof top that Chrysler has provided. No drilling or anything required and easy to follow instructions included, the Thule 430 Tracker II includes a pair of square load bars, four 430 Tracker II Feet and a set of four TK Tracker Kits (choose the TK11 Kits for your specific 2004 Chrysler Pacifica). The TK11 Tracker Kits quickly install to the fixpoints on the roof top and each 430 Tracker II Foot then snaps onto each TK11 Tracker Kit. You can then attach the cargo luggage carrier directly to the load bars. The 50inch load bars are the recommended length for your vehicle.
The Thule 430R Rapid Tracker II roof rack system is also ideal for the Chrysler Pacifica. It works exactly the same way as the regular Thule 430 Tracker II system but is a more premium alternative due to the sleek Thule Rapid Aero load bars it uses rather than the classic square Thule load bars used on the regular 430 Tracker II system. You will need to choose the Thule RB53 53" length Rapid Aero bars for use with your vehicle. Otherwise the Thule 430R Rapid Tracker II system uses the same TK11 Tracker Kits. You can also mount all the same Thule cargo luggage carriers to the Rapid Aero load bars.
We then highly recommend both the Thule 686 Atlantis 1600 cargo box and Thule 603 Ascent 1500 cargo box as superb options for your needs. These luggage boxes will connect directly to both the Thule 430 Tracker II system base rack square bars and the Thule 430R Rapid Tracker II system base rack Rapid Aero bars. 2006 Honda CRV Roof Rack for Kayaks
june 22, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2006 Honda CRV Roof Rack for Kayaks]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2006 Honda CR-V
Question: I need to transport a couple of sea kayaks on my 2006 Honda CRV. The CRV currently has no type of car rack on it so i'm looking at needing some kind of general purpose base roof rack system along with the kayak carrier attachments I think.
Answer: Yes you are correct, no matter what gear you plan to carry on your roof you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. You can then attach the kayak carriers to the front and rear cross bars. An excellent option for your 2006 Honda CR-V is the Yakima Control Towers & Landing Pads Complete Roof Rack Base System. Using the set of four Yakima #8 Landing Pads (included with Control Towers), the Control Tower multi-purpose base rack system connects directly to the fixpoint pre-placed points in your roof that Honda has included on the 2006 CR-V rooftop to allow this rack system to install effortlessly and securely. This system includes four Yakima Control Towers, four Yakima LP8 Landing Pads and a pair of cross bars. Easy to follow instructions make the installation a snap (no drilling required). The 48inch cross bars are the recommended crossbars length for your CRV roof top. However if you plan to carry two or more kayaks flat and side by side then you will need to choose at least the 58 inch length crossbars. If you decide on the j-cradle style kayak carriers, however, you can still use the 48 inch length cross bars.
You can then attach any of Yakima's excellent kayak carriers directly to the Yakima Control Tower base rack cross bars. A superb setup for one person to effortlessly load and unload a kayak is the Yakima Mako Saddle / Hully Roller combination. The Mako Saddle / Hully Roller combination works with all types of kayaks and consists of one pair of Yakima Mako Saddles attached to the base rack front cross bar and one pair of Yakima Hully Rollers attached to rear cross bar. You'll need to purchase two pairs of each for carrying two kayaks. (Attach the 2 pairs of Mako saddles to the front crossbar and the 2 pairs of HullyRollers to the rear crossbar). The Yakima LandShark kayak carrier is a great reliable and value-priced all around kayak transporting solution. Attaches directly to the base rack front and rear cross bars. Purchase two for carrying two kayaks. The Yakima HullRaiser is a universal kayak system that carries your kayak using a j-cradle design, which also makes it very easy to load/unload a kayak. Attaches directly to the base rack front and rear cross bars. Purchase two for carrying two kayaks. And finally, probably the most current kayak rack on the market today is the Yakima BowDown. This j-cradle style kayak carrier works exactly the same way as the HullRaiser except that it allows you to fold the upright cradles down when not in use so there are no possible overhead clearance issues when pulling into garages or low-overhang entrances. 2007 Dodge Charger Roof Rack for Bikes
may 22, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Dodge Charger Roof Rack for Bikes]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Dodge Charger
Question: Because my 2007 Dodge Charger has a large rear spoiler I'm not really very interested in a trunk mount bike rack so I'm hoping to install a Dodge Charger roof rack to carry a couple of bikes.
Answer: We highly recommend the Thule 400XT Aero Complete Roof Rack Base System for your 2007 Dodge Charger. No matter what gear carriers you plan to mount on your roof you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four Thule 2175 Fit Kit Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 2007 Dodge Charger) and two load bars (please note the 50" load bars are the recommended length for your rooftop). You will attach the bike carriers to the front and rear load bars.
Another superb option is the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero complete base rack system. The Thule 400XTR exactly the same way as the regular Thule 400XT Aero system (uses the same Thule 2175 Fit Kit clips too) except that it uses the elliptical Thule Rapid Aero load bars (the RB53 Rapid Aero bars are the length necessary for your vehicle), which are very sleek and aerodynamic offering a more low-profile, modern and premium appearance. You will attach the bike carriers to these front and rear load bars as well.
You can then choose from any of Thule's excellent roof mount bike racks. All connect to the Thule 400XT Aero and Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero base rack system load bars. Please note that certain Thule roof mount bike carriers require a set of Thule Xadapt adapters when mounting to the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero load bars. All roof mount Thule bike carriers mount directly to the regular Thule 400XT Aero load bars however.
If you prefer a fork mount bike rack (removal of the front wheel required) then we highly recommend the Thule 518 Echelon. This is a fork mount bike rack that offers quick and easy loading and holds the bikes very securely when in transit. Works with both road bikes and all styles of mountain bikes, full suspension mtn bikes included. There is no other fork mount carrier available that will get your bike loaded up and secured this fast every time. The Thule 517 Peloton is also a fork mount bike rack that offers excellent quick loading technology and holds the bikes very securely when in transit. Works with both road bikes and all styles of mountain bikes, full suspension mtn bikes included. The Thule 594 SideArm is the leading upright mount bike carrier. No need to take the front wheel off first. Loads and unloads effortlessly. The Thule 599XTR Big Mouth Upright bike carrier is an excellent no frills, value priced upright mount carrier. 1994 Ford Bronco Roof Rack for 2 Kayaks
may 4, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![1994 Ford Bronco Roof Rack for 2 Kayaks]() | vehicle year / make / model: 1994 Ford Bronco
Question: I'm looking into installing a 1994 Ford Bronco roof rack for carrying 2 kayaks. The 1994 Ford Bronco has raingutters on it so I think I need a system that attaches to those. Do any car rack companies still make roof racks for raingutters. All the cars I see on the road these days are gutterless.
Answer: We highly recommend the Yakima 1A Raingutter Complete Roof Rack Base System for your 1994 Ford Bronco. This base rack system includes four Yakima 1A Raingutter Towers that attach to the Bronco's raingutters, and a pair of heavy-duty round crossbars that connect to the four upright Yakima 1A Towers. You can then attach any Yakima kayak carriers to the Yakima 1A Raingutter front and rear cross bars. You will need to select the Yakima 66 inch cross bars length for your roof top. This length will also allow plenty of room to transport 2 kayaks at the same time.
You can then attach any of Yakima Racks excellent kayak carriers directly to the Yakima 1A Raingutter base rack cross bars. An excellent option for your setup is the Yakima Mako Saddle/ Yakima Hully Roller combination. The Mako Saddle/Hully Roller combination works with all types of kayaks and consists of one pair of Yakima Mako Saddles attached to the base rack front cross bar and one pair of Yakima Hully Rollers attached to rear cross bar. This is an incredibly easy and hassle free loading/unloading system, especially if the person is loading/unloading alone. 2002 Toyota Camry Cargo Carrier for Camping Gear
april 27, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2002 Toyota Camry Cargo Carrier for Camping Gear]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2002 Toyota Camry 4 door sedan
Question: I need some type of car roof top cargo carrier to transport camping equipment on a 2002 Toyota Camry that has no car rack whatsoever on it currently.
Answer: We highly recommend the Thule 400XT Aero Complete Roof Rack Base System for your 2002 Toyota Camry. It is engineered to fit your vehicle perfectly and is very quick to install (easy-to-follow instructions included). No matter what gear carriers you plan to mount on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four Thule 2113 Fit Kit Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 2002 Toyota Camry) and two load bars (please note the 50" load bars are the recommended length for your rooftop). You will attach the cargo-camping equipment carrier to the front and rear load bars.
Another superb option is the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero complete base rack system. This car rack system works exactly the same way as the regular Thule 400XT Aero system (uses the same Thule 2113 Fit Kit clips too) except that it uses the elliptical Thule Rapid Aero load bars (the Thule RB53 Rapid Aero bars are the length necessary for your vehicle), which are very sleek and aerodynamic offering a more low-profile, modern and premium looking appearance. You will attach the cargo-camping equipment carrier to these front and rear load bars as well.
We then highly recommend both the Thule 686 Atlantis 1600 cargo box and Thule 603 Ascent 1500 cargo box as superb options for your needs. These cargo boxes will connect directly to both the Thule 400XT Aero system base rack square bars and the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero system base rack Rapid Aero bars. 2008 Hyundai Accent 2 Door Kayak Roof Rack
april 22, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2008 Hyundai Accent 2 Door Kayak Roof Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2008 Hyundai Accent 3 door
Question: My 2008 Hyundai Accent only has 2 doors (plus the rear hatch door) so the roof is pretty short. Can I still carry a couple of kayaks on this roof top?
Answer: Yes. The key with your 2008 Hyundai Accent 3 door (and most other 2 door cars and regular cab size pick up trucks) is the use of the Thule 477 Short Roof Adapter Kit in combination with the Thule 400XT Aero base rack system. The Short Roof Adaptor Kit quickly installs and allows the Thule 400XT Aero system's two cross bars to be distanced further apart from each other, allowing for a stable platform for safely carrying any item on the roof rack including kayaks. The Thule 400XT Aero Complete Roof Rack Base System is engineered to fit your 2008 Hyundai Accent perfectly and is very quick to install (easy-to-follow instructions included). The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four 2182 Fit Kit Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 2008 Hyundai Accent) and two load bars (please note the 50" load bars are the recommended length for your vehicle). You will attach the kayak carriers to the front and rear load bars. And again you will need to also use the Thule 477 Short Roof Adapter Kit in combination with the Thule 400XT Aero system (easy to follow instructions included with the Thule 477 as well).
You can then choose from any of Thule Racks excellent roof mount kayak carriers. All connect directly to the Thule 400XT Aero base rack system front and rear load bars. We do highly recommend the Thule 835PRO Hull-A-Port kyak racks. They are j-cradle style kayak carriers for easy loading/unloading of each kayak. The all-new design of this carrier also allows each cradle to fold down when not in use, avoiding any clearance issues such as a garage etc. And the folded down position when not carrying a kayak is also much more aerodynamic and fuel efficient. Order two for carrying 2 kayaks. The Thule Racks 835XTR Hull-A-Port is exactly the same as the 835PRO except the cradles cannot be folded down. Finally, an excellent optional accessory is the Thule 847 Outrigger II lift assist, a lifting assist aid for loading a kayak onto the kayak racks. It is housed inside one of the Thule 400XT Aero base rack system load bars and telescopes out when you need it for loading and unloading the kayak. Then retracts back into the load bar during transport. » view Thule 400XT Aero car rack page » view Thule 835PRO kayak rack page » view Thule 835XTR kayak rack page » view Thule 847 Outrigger II load-assist page » view example Thule 400XT / 477 / 835PRO install page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2002 Acura MDX Kayak Carriers for Factory Rack
april 4, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2002 Acura MDX Kayak Carriers for Factory Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2002 Acura MDX
Question: Is it possible to carry two kayaks on my 2002 Acura MDX roof rack crossbars (its a factory installed rack)? I have two 10 ft. kayaks.
Answer: You can absolutely carry your 2 kayaks on your Acura MDX factory rack bars. The Thule 835PRO Hull-A-Port kayak carrier is a superb option for your Acura MDX factory rack crossbars. The Thule 835PRO Hull-A-Port is engineered to attach directly to your factory rack, eliminating the need to buy a multi-purpose base rack that converts your factory rack. Also, in addition to making it very easy to load and unload your kayak the j-cradle design of the Hull-A-Port allows you to attach two of them to your factory rack, enabling you to carry two kayaks, because it cradles each kayak in a semi-vertical fashion instead of the kayaks laying flat, creating enough space on your factory rack cross bars to carry two kayaks. Includes all hardware, 2 straps, buckle bumpers and a pair of Thule 855 Quickdraw ratcheting tie down straps for securing boat bow and stern. A very cool feature of the 835PRO is its ability to instantly fold down the cradles flat when not in use. Eliminating any overhead clearance issues and a very streamlined look that improves fuel efficiency when not transporting a kayak. The Thule 835XTR Hull-a-Port is exactly the same as the 835PRO except that it does not offer the option to fold down the cradles when not in use. » view Thule 835PRO kayak rack page » view Thule 835XTR kayak rack page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2007 Jeep Wrangler Canoe Rack for Hard Top
march 27, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Jeep Wrangler Canoe Rack for Hard Top]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hard Top
Question: I am looking to carry one canoe and fishing poles if possible on my 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hard Top. I'm interested in the best easy load options as I will be loading and unloading the canoe solo.
Answer: We highly recommend the Yakima 1A Raingutter Complete Roof Rack Base System for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hard Top. This base rack system includes four Yakima 1A Raingutter Towers that attach to the Jeep Wrangler Hard Top raingutters, and a pair of heavy-duty Yakima round crossbars that connect to the 4 upright Yakima 1A Raingutter Towers. You will attach the canoe carrier to the Yakima 1A Raingutter system front and rear cross bars. You will need to choose at least the 58 inch length cross bars, as this is the size necessary to span the width of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hard Top roof.
We then recommend going with the Yakima Gunwale Brackets Canoe Carrier which connects directly to Yakima 1A Raingutter Towers base rack front and rear cross bars. Four Gunwale brackets included and two heavy-duty padded straps included also. For total transport safety we recommend the pair of Yakima bow/stern tie down straps (see accessories at the bottom of Gunwale Brackets product page) for your canoe.
Also, for your needs we highly recommend the Yakima ShowBoat Roller Lift Assist. The Yakima Show Boat Roller system attaches to the 1A Raingutter Towers base rack crossbars and includes a roller that telescopes out over the edge of the rear of the roof top to allow you to place the front of the canoe on it and then roll it into place on the canoe carrier. Then you just retract the Showboat back into its storage position and you are ready to go! Please note that you will also need to purchase an extra set of Yakima 66 inch crossbars which are used as the extensions bars for the Yakima ShowBoat.
And finally, the best fishing rod rack around is a ski rack believe it or not. The ski rack is perfectly suited to carry fishing rods. And best of all you can then carry skis and snowboards in the winter! We recommend the Yakima Powderhound as the ideal fishing rod rack. Attaches directly to the 1A Raingutter Tower cross bars. » view Yakima 1A Raingutter roof rack page » view Yakima ShowBoat Roller lift-assist page » view Yakima Gunwale Brackets canoe rack page » view Yakima Powderhound fishing rod rack page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? Question: What do you recommend as the best option for a 2008 Scion xD car rack system. I'm also interested in a noise faring.
Answer: We highly recommend the Yakima Q Towers Complete Roof Rack Base System for your 2008 Scion xD. No matter what gear you plan to carry on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Yakima Q Tower complete car rack system includes four Yakima Q Towers, a pair of Yakima Q8 clips for the front of the roof and a pair of Yakima Q83 clips for the rear of the roof (this Q Clip combination is specific to your 2008 Scion xD) and two cross bars. You can then attach any of the various Yakima Racks roof mount gear carriers directly to the Q Tower front and rear cross bars. 2007 Honda CR-V Roof Rack for 2 Kayaks
march 17, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Honda CR-V Roof Rack for 2 Kayaks]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Honda CR-V
Question: I am very new at this and interested in installing a 2007 Honda CRV car rack for carrying 2 kayaks. There is no factory roof rack on the Honda CRV currently however. Should I have bought a CRV that had a factory rack pre-installed or can I use another kayak rack system on this car?
Answer: You can absolutely use an after-market roof rack system on your 2007 Honda CR-V. In fact this roof rack wil be much stronger and durable than the factory rack option anyway. First things first, no matter what gear you plan to carry on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. You will attach the kayak carriers to the front and rear cross bars. The Yakima Control Tower Complete Roof Rack Base System is engineered to fit your 2007 Honda CR-V perfectly and is very quick to install. Using the set of four Yakima LP10 Landing Pads (necessary for your 2007 Honda CRV and included with Control Towers system), the Control Tower multi-purpose base rack system connects directly to the four fixpoint attachment points in your roof that Honda has made to allow this rack system to install effortlessly and securely. Includes four Yakima Control Towers, four Yakima LP10 Landing Pads and a pair of cross bars. Easy to follow instructions make the installation literally a snap. The Yakima 48 inch cross bars are the recommended crossbars length for your vehicle's roof top and will work well if you choose the j-cradle style kayak carriers (j-cradle style kayak racks transport a kayak in a semi-upright position on the kayak's side). However if you plan to carry two kayaks flat and side by side you will need to choose the 58 inch length crossbars.
You can then attach any Yakima Racks kayak carriers to the Control Towers system cross bars. By far the most popular option is the Yakima BowDown j-cradle kayak rack. This is a universal kayak rack that carries your kayak using a j-cradle design, which also makes it very easy to load/unload a kayak. Compatible with all styles of kayaks. A very nice innovative feature of the Yakima BowDown is the ability to quickly fold the upright cradles down flat when not in use so there are no possible overhead clearance issues when pulling into garages or low-overhang entrances. Also much more aerodynamic and fuel efficient. The Yakima HullRaiser kayak rack is very similar to the Yakima BowDown and is a j-cradle style carrier working the the same way as the BowDown excelt that it doesn't offer the option to fold down flat when not in use. » view Yakima Control Towers car rack page » view Yakima BowDown kayak rack page » view Yakima HullRaiser kayak rack page » view example Honda CRV kayak roof rack install page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? Question: I have a 2 inch trailer hitch installed on my 2004 Toyota Sienna and am now in the process of searching for a suitable hitch bike rack that can carry 3 or 4 bicycles. I'd really like to be able to access the rear of the Sienna even when the bikes are loaded on the rack. Is that possible?

These models are a couple of the finest and most popular options on the market today. They fit 2 inch hitch receivers and carry 4 bikes. The Yakima SwingDaddy and Thule 964 Revolver both offer a slick swing away mechanism for easy access to the rear of your vehicle even when the bikes are loaded. 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe Canoe Rack for Factory Bars
feb. 22, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2007 Hyundai Santa Fe Canoe Rack for Factory Bars]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe
Question: Do I have to replace my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe factory rack system with an after-market roof rack from Thule Racks or Yakima Racks if I want to carry a canoe using a bracket type canoe rack instead of the cheap and awful foam locks (I can say that because I've been using the car rack foam blocks for a couple years now and am absolutely fed up with the hassles they bring!)
Answer: No you do not have to replace your current factory rack. Instead, we highly recommend the affordable and solid canoe rack called the Malone MPG104 Big Foot canoe carrier for your 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe factory rack. The Malone BigFoot is the only four point L-bracket gunnel system that mounts directly to factory rack crossbars. A very solid and inexpensive canoe rack solution that eliminates any side to side shifting etc. Includes a pair of heavy duty load straps. 2008 GMC Yukon Luggage and Kayak Rack
feb. 17, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2008 GMC Yukon Luggage and Kayak Rack]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2008 GMC Yukon
Question: My 2008 GMC Yukon just has the factory side rails. There are no cross bars currently. What do you suggest I use for crossbars so i can then mount a couple of kayak racks and roof cargo carrier (luggage box)?
Answer: Installing a multi-purpose base rack system to your 2008 GMC Yukon factory rack side rails is our recommendation. You will attach the kayak carriers to this multi-purpose base rack system front and rear cross bars. The Yakima Lowrider Complete Roof Rack Base System will fit your 2008 GMC Yukon factory rails perfectly and is very quick to install (easy-to-follow instructions included). Attaches directly to your rooftop siderails. The Yakima Lowrider system includes four Yakima Lowrider Towers and two cross bars. Please note that the 58" crossbars are the recommended length for your 08 Yukon and will be long enough if you use two sets of Yakima j-cradle style kayak racks and also a cargo box.
The Yakima HullRaiser is a universal j-cradle style kayak rack carrier that transports your kayak in a semi-vertical fashion (nearly on its side), which also makes it very easy to load and unload a kayak. Attaches directly to Lowrider front and rear cross bars. Purchase two sets of the HullRaisers for carrying two kayaks. The Yakima Bowdown is another j-cradle style kayak rack and is Yakima Racks premium solution because the cradles can quickly fold completely down when not in use. This eliminates any overhead clearance issues encountered with other j-cradle style kayak carriers. Also more aerodynamic and saves on fuel costs. The BowDown also attaches directly to the Yakima Lowrider front and rear cross bars. Purchase two sets of Bowdowns for carrying 2 kayaks.
Finally, you can then mount any Yakima cargo box to the Lowrider system cross bars. An excellent configuration for your needs is to attach the cargo box to the middle of the cross bars then attach a kayak rack on each side of the cargo box. This is a very efficient use of the crossbars and makes it easy to load and unload everything. » view Yakima Lowrider car rack page » view Yakima 8004042 BowDown kayak rack page » view Yakima 8004039 HullRaiser kayak rack page » view all Yakima roof cargo carriers page » view example Yakima Lowrider & Hullraiser install page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2001 Honda Odyssey Car Rooftop Luggage Bag
jan. 27, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2001 Honda Odyssey Car Rooftop Luggage Bag]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2001 Honda Odyssey
Question: I'm headed to Florida with the family for some sun and fun camping and beach combing. The 2001 Honda Odyssey does have factory side rails but no crossbars to attach a gear carrier to. Wondering what my best options are for carrying items such as beach chairs, tent, camping equipment, luggage etc.
Answer: We highly recommend the Thule 867 Tahoe roof bag for your 2001 Honda Odyssey. This cargo luggage bag attaches right to your Odyssey factory rails and doesn't even need any crossbars to attach to. You won't find a more durable and dependable waterproof soft-sided car roof bag available either. And the cargo capacity of the Thule 867 Tahoe bag is enormous, allowing plenty of room for all your beach gear, camping equipment, luggage etc. » view Thule 867 Tahoe roof bag page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2008 Nissan Quest Roof Rack for Sea Kayak
jan. 22, 2008 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2008 Nissan Quest Roof Rack for Sea Kayak]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2008 Nissan Quest
Question: I am currently seeking information regarding the best option for a 2008 Nissan Quest kayak roof rack for transporting a sea kayak that is approximately 70 lbs and 13 feet long.
Answer: The Yakima Q Towers Complete Roof Rack Base System is a superb option for the 2008 Nissan Quest. No matter what gear and equipment you plan to carry on your pickup truck cab roof you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Yakima Q Tower system includes four Yakima Q Towers, a pair of Yakima Q62 clips for the front of the Nissan Quest roof and a pair of Yakima Q20 clips for the rear of the Nissan Quest roof (this Q Clips combination is specific to your 2008 Nissan Quest) and two cross bars. It is also very important to be sure you also use the Yakima Q Stretch Kit in combination with the Yakima Q Tower system on your 2008 Nissan Quest. The Yakima Q Stretch Kit is required for stretching out the distance between the front and rear Q Towers system cross bars so you have a solid and safe platform for attaching the kayak carrier and transporting the kayak. Easy to follow instructions included with both the Yakima Racks Q Stretch Kit adapter and Yakima Q Tower car rack system. You can then attach the kayak carrier directly to the Q Towers front and rear cross bars. The 48 inch crossbars are the recommended length for the 2008 Nissan Quest roof top.
You can then attach any of Yakima Racks excellent kayak carriers directly to the Yakima Q Tower base rack cross bars. One of our personal favorites is the Yakima Mako Saddle / Yakima Hully Roller combination. The Mako Saddles /HullyRoller combination works with all types of kayaks and consists of one pair of Yakima Mako Saddles attached to the base rack front cross bar and one pair of Yakima Hully Rollers attached to rear cross bar. This is an incredibly easy and hassle free loading/unloading system, especially if the person is loading/unloading alone.
Another excellent kayak rack option is the Yakima BowDown j-cradle style kayak rack. The j-cradle style kayak racks are very popular because they make it easy to load the kayak into the cradles, work with virtually all styles of kayaks and take up less crossbar space then kayak carriers that carry the boat flat. The very cool unique feature of the BowDown, however, is its ability to fold the upright cradles down totally flat when not in use so there are no possible overhead clearance issues when pulling into garages or low-overhang entrances. Also more aerodynamic for better fuel-efficiency. » view Yakima Q Tower roof rack page » view Yakima Q Stretch Kit page » view Yakima Mako Saddle kayak rack page » view Yakima HullyRoller kayak rack page » view Yakima BowDown kayak rack page » view example Q Tower / Q Stretch Kit install page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2005 Ford F-250 Crew Cab Roof Rack for 2 Kayaks

Question: I have a 2005 Ford F250 crew cab that I want to install a roof rack on so I can carry a couple of kayaks. What do you recommend as working best for this pickup truck?
Answer: The Yakima Q Towers Complete Roof Rack Base System is a superb option for the 2005 Ford F-250 crew cab. No matter what gear and equipment you plan to carry on your pickup truck cab roof you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Yakima Q Tower system includes four Yakima Q Towers, two pairs of Yakima Q58 Clips (these Q Clips are specific to your 2005 Ford F250) and two cross bars. You will attach the kayak carriers directly to the Q Tower front and rear cross bars. The 58 inch crossbars are the recommended length for the Ford F250 roof top and will also provide enough room for carrying 2 kayaks.
You will need two of each for carrying two kayaks, i.e. attach two pairs of the Yakima Mako saddles to the front crossbar and two pairs of the Yakima Hully Rollers to the rear crossbar.
1996 Saturn SL Roof Rack for Windsurfer Board
dec. 22, 2007 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![1996 Saturn SL Roof Rack for Windsurfer Board]() | vehicle year / make / model: 1996 Saturn SL
Question: What do you recommend for a 1996 Saturn SL windsurfer rack?
Answer: We highly recommend the Thule 400XT Aero Complete Roof Rack Base System first of all. It is engineered to fit your 1996 Saturn SL sedan perfectly and is very quick to install (easy-to-follow instructions included). No matter what gear carriers you plan to mount on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four Thule 2060 Fit Kit Clips (these Thule Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 1996 Saturn SL) and two load bars. Please note that the 50" load bars are the recommended length for your Saturn SL. You can then mount the windsurfer carrier to the base rack load bars.
We then highly recommend the Thule 554XT Hang-Two windsurfer-surfboard carrier. This is a superb sailboard rack and mounts directly to the Thule 400XT Aero base rack load bars. » view Thule 400XT Aero car rack page » view Thule 554XT Hang-Two windsurfer rack page » view example Thule 554XT sailboard rack install page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2008 Ford F150 Truck Rack for Canoe and Kayaks
dec. 17, 2007 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2008 Ford F150 Truck Rack for Canoe and Kayaks]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2008 Ford F-150 supercrew
Question: I have a tonneau cover on the truckbed of my 2008 Ford F150 supercrew so seeking alternative solution for installing a Ford F150 truck rack to carry a canoe and couple of 14 foot long kayaks. I do have a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver for possibly using a t-bar rack on the back of the pickup truck.
Answer: The Yakima Q Tower Half Pack Roof Rack Base System will fit your 2008 Ford F-150 supercrew cab perfectly and is very quick to install (easy-to-follow instructions included). It includes a pair of Yakima Q122 clips (these Yakima Q Clips are specific to your 2008 Ford F150), two upright Yakima Q Towers and a single cross bar. This will be the front cross bar that you will connect the kayak and canoe carriers to. The 58 inch crossbars are the recommended length for your pickup truck and will also allow enough room for carrying 2 kayaks. If you plan to carry the kayaks and canoe at the same time then you will need to choose longer length crossbars (unless you select the j-cradle style kayak carriers, see below for more details).
You can then attach the Yakima DryDock t-bar hitch mount rack to the rear trailer hitch receiver. You will attach the kayak and canoe carriers to this as well. Note that you will need to also purchase a single cross bar to work in combination with the DryDock t-bar rack (available at the bottom of the DryDock product page) Choose the same length crossbar as you are using on the Yakima Q Tower Half Pack system.
You can then attach any of Yakima Racks excellent kayak carriers directly to the Q Tower Half Pack cross bar and the DryDock cross bar. Our personal favorite is the Mako Saddle-Hully Roller combination. The Mako Saddle/Hully Roller combination works with all types of kayaks and consists of one pair of Yakima Mako Saddles attached to the front cross bar and one pair of Yakima Hully Rollers attached to rear cross bar. This is an incredibly easy and hassle free loading/unloading system, especially if the person is loading/unloading alone. Purchase two of each for carrying 2 kayaks. The Yakima HullRaiser is a universal j-cradle style kayak rack carrier that transports the kayak in a semi-vertical fashion (nearly on its side), which also makes it very easy to load/unload a kayak. Using a couple of these in combination with the canoe carrier is an excellent option because you will be able to use the 58 inch length crossbars instead of having to go with longer length bars. You would attach the canoe rack to the middle of the crossbars and a HullRaiser kayak rack on each side of the canoe rack. Purchase two HullRaiser sets for carrying two kayaks. The Yakima Bowdown is another j-cradle style kayak rack and is Yakima Racks premium solution because the cradles can quickly fold completely down when not in use. This eliminates any overhead clearance issues encountered with other j-cradle style kayak carriers. Otherwise works exactly the same way as the HullRaiser model. Purchase two sets of Yakima Bowdowns for carrying 2 kayaks.
Finally, we highly recommend the Yakima Gunwale Brackets Canoe Carrier. Four Gunwale brackets included and two heavy-duty padded straps included also. For total transport safety we recommend the pair of Yakima bow/stern tie down straps (see accessories at the bottom of Gunwale Brackets canoe rack product page) for your canoe. » view Yakima Q Tower Half Pack truck rack page » view Yakima DryDock t-bar hitch rack page » view Yakima Gunwale Brackets canoe rack page » view example Q Tower 1/2 Pack & DryDock install page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2006 Honda Civic Car Rack for Bikes & Skis
nov. 27, 2007 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2006 Honda Civic Car Rack for Bikes & Skis]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2006 Honda Civic sedan
Question: What do recommend by Thule Racks for installing a 2006 Honda Civic roof rack to carry a couple bikes and some skis and snowboards in the winter?
Answer: The Thule 400XT Aero Complete Roof Rack Base System is engineered to fit your 2006 Honda Civic perfectly and is very quick to install (easy-to-follow instructions included). No matter what gear carriers you plan to mount on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four Thule 2171 Fit Kit Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 2006 Honda Civic) and two load bars (please note the 58" load bars are the recommended length for your rooftop). You will attach the bike and ski/snowboard carriers to the front and rear load bars.
Another excellent multi-purpose car rack system for the 06 Honda Civic is the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero complete base rack system. The Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero system works exactly the same way as the regular Thule 400XT Aero system (uses the same Thule 2171 Fit Kit clips too) except that it uses the elliptical Thule Rapid Aero load bars (the RB53 Rapid Aero bars are the length necessary for your vehicle), which are very sleek and aerodynamic offering a more low-profile, modern and premium appearance. You will attach the bike and ski/snowboard carriers to these front and rear load bars as well.
You can then choose from any of Thule Racks excellent roof mount bike racks. All connect to the Thule 400XT Aero and Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero base rack system load bars. Remember that certain Thule roof mount bike carriers require a set of Thule Xadapt adapters when mounting to the Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero load bars. Works with both road bikes and all styles of mountain bikes, full suspension included. There is no other fork mount carrier available that will get your bike loaded up and secured this fast every time. The Thule 594 SideArm is the leading upright mount bike carrier. No need to take the front wheel off first. Loads and unloads bikes absolutely effortlessly.
Finally, you can then attach the Thule 91724, 91725 or 91726 Deluxe Pull Top ski-snowboard racks directly to the Thule 400XT Aero or Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero front and rear load bars. The difference between the 91724 / 91725 and the 91726 Deluxe Pull Top is that the 91726 telescopes out from the roof to allow you to more easily load your skis and snowboards, then it slides back into place. All allow you to mix and match transporting skis and snowboards as well. » view Thule 400XT Aero roof rack page » view Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero roof rack page » view Thule 518 Echelon bike rack page » view Thule 594 Side Arm bike rack page » view all Thule ski racks page » view example Honda Civic car rack install page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs? 2006 Scion xB Luggage Basket and Bike Racks
nov. 17, 2007 / posted by: ors racks direct crew | ![2006 Scion xB Luggage Basket and Bike Racks]() | vehicle year / make / model: 2006 Scion xB
Question: I'd like to know what you recommend for a 2006 Scion xB roof rack luggage basket. I would also like to carry a couple of bikes at times so not really sure how that would be accomplished.
Answer: The Thule 400XT Aero Complete Roof Rack Base System is engineered to fit your 2006 Scion xB perfectly and is very quick to install (easy-to-follow instructions included). No matter what gear carriers you plan to mount on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, four Thule 2124 Fit Kit Clips (these Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 2006 Scion xB) and two load bars (please note the 58" load bars are the recommended length for your rooftop). You will attach the luggage basket and bike carriers to the front and rear load bars.
The Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero complete base rack system is also a highly recommended option for your 2006 Scion xB. Works exactly the same way as the regular Thule 400XT Aero system (uses the same Thule 2124 Fit Kit clips too) except that it uses the elliptical Thule Rapid Aero load bars (the RB53 Rapid Aero bars are the length necessary for your vehicle), which are very sleek and aerodynamic offering a more low-profile, modern and premium appearance. You will attach the luggage basket and bike carriers to these front and rear load bars as well.
Our recommendation for a roof rack luggage basket is the Thule 690 MOAB. This cargo basket is a multi-purpose basket that attaches directly to the 400XT Aero and Thule 400XTR Aero base rack system load bars and is ideal for transporting all types of gear. Locks are included for securing the 690 MOAB to the roof rack. Several accessories such as the 692 Stretch Net (secures cargo gear) are also available. Accessories are located at the bottom of the Thule 690 MOAB basket product page. The Thule 867 Tahoe cargo bag will also attach to the basket. This bag is waterproof and great for keeping your luggage and cargo gear dry in adverse weather conditions. Finally, the Thule 690 MOAB basket includes two integrated load bars on the top of the basket that you can mount other Thule gear carriers to the roof basket if you want. Ideal for attaching bike racks to.
Finally, you can also choose from any of Thule's excellent roof mount bike racks. If you do not want to attach the bike racks to the Thule 690 MOAB basket load bars you will also have enough room to attach a bike rack on either side of the basket on the 400XT Aero of 400XTR Rapid Aero load bars. Just mount the gear basket to the middle of the bars. » view Thule 400XT Aero car rack page » view Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero car rack page » view Thule 690 MOAB basket rack page » view example 400XT & Thule 690 MOAB basket install page Not Sure What Rack System Will Best Meet Your Needs?
