Like They Say "Why Pay More"

I put these on my Forester in about 5 minutes and carried my heavy aluminum Grumman 17 foot canoe 1400 miles back and forth to the beach at 70 miles per hour. I had no worries that it might be insecurly fastened to the vehicle. Like it was welded on. Excellent quality item as I'm sure Thule and Yakima are, but considering the price I paid for the Malone why would I buy the others?

Inexpensive, But Sturdy Medium Duty Rack

This Malone rack installs easily, is sturdy enough for rooftop transport of material that's not too large or too heavy -- probably under 100 lbs, unless you also purchase special fittings (for canoe, kayak, etc). The only problem we've had with the rack is the wind noise when it's on the vehicle empty. This is a common problem with racks, but this one sits up pretty high and the noise seems to be somewhat louder than other racks we've had. I consider this a minor point for a rack that sells for less than 40% of the competition's racks.

I'm a gearhead. Big time. I've got it all, and I use it all. But every time we get a new rig it kills me to have to shell out a ton of cash for a new fit-kit, or crossbars or whatever it is I need to mount all my goodies on. Now I am a big fan of high-end custom bike and boat racks (Yakima / Thule etc.) but I just can't see why I would need to spend well over $200 for one of their universal crossbar sets when the Malone serves exactly the same purpose, and costs less than half. The quality seems good; very burly and simple attachment mechanism, same load ratings as the big boys, good looks too. I spend way too much time deciding these things; but hey - I take my gear much more seriously than some. When I took the 20 minutes to put these on my wife's new car I knew without a doubt I'd made the right call. This time...

I installed the Malone Rack on my VW Passat, added a cargo carrier to the top and I had a perfectly matched carrier for my car. The Malone towers attached easily to my side rails, the locks were included and they looked great when they were installed. The Malone rails are a quality product at a "MORE THAN" reasonable cost!! Thanks ORS!!!

ORS Racks Direct Crew says - Malone crossbars have the exact same dimensions as Thule square load bars. Therefore, besides being compatible with all Malone gear carriers, the Malone cross bars are compatible with any Thule and Inno gear carriers as well as virtually all Yakima gear carriers.

Ben asks - What's the max load of the Malone Universal Cross Rail System. These cross rails are to be mounted on existing side rails on top of a 2002 Chevy S-10 Crew Cab. I have 2 Tarpon 100 (52 lb each) I will be carrying on the Thule Hull-a-port Pro J-Cradles.

ORS Crew answers - The maximum load for this roof rack is 132 lbs, so you will be fine for using this as a base system to attach the j-cradles and carry your 2 Tarpon 100 kayaks.

Tom D. asks - I have a pickup truck with 1" tubular rails on the hard rear tonneau cover that are 55" apart and 48' long running front to back of the tonneau cover. Can I attach the Malone universal cross bars to these tubular 1" rails?

ORS Crew answers - Yes, in all likelihood the Malone Universal Cross Rail roof rack will mount to those side rails. What we cannot determine is what the rated maximum load capacity is of these bars etc... You will want to get the MPG203 65" cross bars model, as this will provide adequate length to span across the tonneau cover from siderail to siderail.

Scott Z. asks - I have a 2007 Chevy Tahoe with factory side rails and I'm looking at this Malone cross bars rack (58" crossbars version) with the Malone kayak stacker. I need to transport 4 kayaks. Would this work for me?

ORS Crew answers - No the MPG202 model is not recommended as a 2007 Chevy Tahoe roof rack. The siderails are too low on this vehicle to properly install it. We instead recommend the Thule 45058 Crossroad roof rack kit and the Yakima RailGrab roof rack kit. You can then connect the kayak stacker directly to the cross bars on either of these systems. You'll have enough crossbar space to stack 4 kayaks.

MisterB asks - I have a 2011 Kia Sportage with factory installed flush roof rails (solid from the top of the rail to the roof, there is no space in between). Will the Malone Universal Crossrail roof rack work with that type of siderail?

ORS Crew answers - No, this carrier requires that there be space between the rooftop and the side rails. For cars with flush side rails such as the '11 Kia Sportage you will need the Thule 460 Podium system, which uses the 4009 Podium Fit Kit to attach to the side rails. (Thule 460R Rapid Podium system also available, uses the same 4009 Fit Kit but uses the premium Rapid Aero load bars instead of the classic Thule square bars).

Chris D. asks - Ready to place an order but want to verify that this system will fit a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with factory side rails. Thanks!

ORS Crew answers - Yes, this is a Malone confirmed and sanctioned fit. You can use both the MPG201 50" and MPG202 58" for use as a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac crossbars roof rack system. Attaches directly to the side rails.
