I have both tomahawk and brass uckle
May 27, 2017
So. It's cheaper and that really shows. The parts are less, construction is simpler but that make mounting harder. I'd be happy if I didn't have the brass knuckle to compare it to. The brass knuckle rack mounts with straps that one screw tightens. The tomahawk takes 4 bolts to tighten front section so this make removal must more time consuming. The arm that swings over is not as well built. Money saved but it is harder to adjust for which side you want it on and adjust the stiffness of the swing. The tire attachment is the same but in stored position it is less secure. It also jiggles. So you save $50 but it's less well designed, lighter, but less convenient and looks cruder.
Pros:
Lighter and cheaper
Cons:
Not as aell design as its predecessor the brass knuckle rack. Functionally the same but less elegant and less user friendly to mount. Holds bike in same manner, securely, but more difficult to configure

Solid carrier for my 29er
May 30, 2016
Easy to assemble, solidly holds my Ellsworth Evolve without any side-to-side wobble that I experienced with my prior rack (combo of Thule upright mount modified with Yakima universal clamps onto OEM crossbars. I bought two of them. Wanted to be able to transport my 29er, road bike and/or friend's Fatbike. I'm using it with new Thule Rapid Crossroad Roof Rack System 450R.
Pros:
Solid grip on bike Versatile, carries most bikes I can load / unload bike onto my Subaru Crosstrek without standing on a step. I'm 5'9" Price (on sale)
Cons:
No quick release. It will take some time to unscrew / rescue the 6 hex nuts on each Tomahawk when I want to switch them to the family minivan for vacations (also equipped with Thule Crossroad Roof Rack System 450R)

this rack is great it fit my surly fat bike. arm seats down wicked good and holds even tires with tons of rubber well. bend in the arm allows for fat tires and I own 2 now.
