Would not buy any other brand
this Thule 400XT Aero Review by James Turner
vehicle year/make/model: 2009 Nissan Versa hatchback
item(s) transported: Cargo, building supplies, christmas trees :)
I recently replaced my 2008 Pathfinder with a 2009 BMW 3-Series Convertible and the 2009 Nissan Versa. There was no way I was going to haul cargo with the BMW and the Versa fit the bill with the exception of cargo hauling. Buying the 400XT Aero car rack system for the Versa makes it a much more versatile “winter beater”. The 400XT system was very simple to install, less then an hour and very secure. We immediately drove back home to Vermont (330 miles and a majority over 70 MPH) and never once were we concerned about losing our gear in the Quest roof top bag we have attached to the 400XT load bars. I modified the bag with two pieces of plywood to give the bottom some rigidly to allow it to sit on top of the bars rather than directly on the roof to prevent denting. The system does produce some additional wind noise on every day driving but once the Quest bag was in place we didn’t even notice it at all. It worked extremely well and we are very pleased with ORS Racks Direct. Prices are fantastic and shipping was fast 3 or 4 days I believe. I have already recommended ORS Racks Direct to colleagues for all their rack needs as well.
What I was Expecting, Installation was Average

item(s) transported: Roof Box
The rack is definitely secure which was my #1 concern. Installation was a bit confusing, but it was completed within 30 minutes. Luckily, I haven't experienced much noise without a fairing and I do not plan on buying one. I put a piece of cloth between the feet and the roof of my car to prevent any marks and it seemed to work.
Good but you need to buy a fairing

vehicle year/make/model: 2003 Dodge Durango

This rack is pretty good. It is durable and strong. Only one issue I have is that it is noisy at higher speeds. But I bought a fairing and it went away. Just wish I didn’t have to buy the fairing. Rack was expensive enough.
Hard to install but solid and secure once installed

vehicle year/make/model: 2006 Saturn Relay
item(s) transported: Canoe, kayak, skis
I just installed the Thule 400XT rack and it took me about 2 and a half hours to install. I found them very
difficult to work with, but I guess the thing that matters is how secure they are once they are installed. As far as that is concerned, they are very good, very secure feeling. Don’t think they are going anywhere anytime soon. The fit kit fits perfectly in my door frame and doesn’t interfere with the door or the gasket. I was worried that they would cause the car to leak in the rain, but they don’t. Again, a total pain to install, but very solid construction and secure once on there. I might suggest paying to have an expert install them for you.
Make Sure you have the Right FIt Kit

vehicle year/make/model: 2007 Volvo S40
item(s) transported: Bikes in the summer, skis in the winter, random stuff year round
I've been using Thule racks for years. They are pretty easy to install once you have the right fit kit! Make sure you have the right fit kit! I thought I could use the same Fit Kit from my older S40. Wrong! I recommend a fairing unless you enjoy high pitched whistling. Also, make sure you wipe the feet and the roof before you install. When I took the racks off the old car there were scuff marks left behind.
DONT TIE YOUR FRIENDS TO THE ROOF-even though it is safe and durable enough to transport your toys!

vehicle year/make/model: 1996 Honda Civic
item(s) transported: Snowboards, and skis. Also random cargo like camping gear
I have never owned a vehicle with a factory rack, but I imagine that this Thule car rack is just as effective! I love the extra space in my car and I am not concerned about damage to the outside. This rack is great because it is removable and easy to install. I did it myself! It seems very safe and it is very affordable.
