With this all-in-one complete package, you just simply attach the four Thule 450 CrossRoad Feet to the pair of 50" load bars then place right onto the factory installed side rails (the two bars located on both sides of the roof that run parallel to each other from the front to back of the roof), tighten down & voila you have a dependable, versatile base rack system that you can attach any Thule gear carriers to. This system also conveniently transfers over to other vehicles with side rails. (PLEASE NOTE: This review also includes the Thule 871XT Wind Fairing and Thule 517 Peloton roof bike rack). I purchased this kit with the assistance of the staff at ORS. Their recommendation was spot-on. Set-up was easy. The roof rack is extremely stable at high speed. The wind fairing quieted the howling generated by air turbulence through the rack...even at high speed, sound is 90-95% muted. The extra money I saved by not opting for the aero bar system was used to buy the fairing. I believe this was an excellent option since many people with aero bars still need the fairing. I enjoy the look of the entire system...very professional! In all, again, I am extremely pleased with the entire experience. Two thumbs up for ORS Racks Direct!

I love this base rack. I can put on a snowboard rack in the winter, and then a bike rack in the summer. I love how good it looks on my car. I might just leave these racks on my car all year long because it looks so good!

Installed very quickly without any glitches. Excellent for use with my tandem bike rack. I use a RockyMounts tandem bike rack mounted to the Crossroad bars and it fits very well.

Steve10 asks - It's not clear how well the 450 Crossroad rack (also the 450R w/ AeroBlade bars and 45050 Crossroad car rack kit w/ locks) will fit on a 2011 Subaru Outback with the factory rack. Do you have a video or other pictures that show the 450 attached to a 2010-2011 Subaru Outback? Any special issues with mounting bicycles using the 450? Thanks!
ORS Crew answers - All the Thule 450 systems (450 w/ square bars, 450R w/ AeroBlade bars and 45050 complete kit w/ locks) mounted to the new model 2010+ Subaru Outback wagons have been extensively tested by Thule Racks and serve as excellent platforms for transporting all kinds of gear and equipment, including bikes, skis, roof boxes, gear baskets and even long kayaks, surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, canoe etc. All the 450 Crossroad systems (450, 450R, 45050 etc.) quickly connect to the Subaru Outback side rails and offer a much more universal configuration - compared to the Subaru factory crossbars - and are fully compatible with the broad range of Thule roof mount gear carriers and carriers from other car rack brands. Greg L. asks - I went through the Thule Racks fit guide on your site for my 2007 Toyota RAV4 with factory-installed side rails. What's the difference between these three products? Thule 450R Rapid Crossroad, Thule 450 Crossroad and Thule 45050 Crossroad?
ORS Crew answers - Great question. They are all very similar and attach to the side rails the same way. Here is how they differ: The regular Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack system includes a Thule 450 CrossRoad Foot Pack (the four Feet that attach to the side rails) and a pair of Thule square load bars, while the Thule 450R Rapid CrossRoad roof rack system includes a Thule 450R Rapid CrossRoad Foot Pack and a pair of the low-profile elliptical AeroBlade load bars. The Thule 45050 CrossRoad roof rack option is a complete system that also includes a Thule 450 CrossRoad Foot Pack, a pair of Thule square load bars AND a 4-pack of locks to lock the system to your car. The other two options require you to buy a 4-pack of locks separately. Thus, if the 50 inch length square load bars are recommended for your specific vehicle then the 45050 CrossRoad roof rack option is the most cost-effective choice because locks are included (the Thule 45058 Crossroad is also available and it includes a pair of longer 58 inch load bars and 4-pack of Thule locks). If you need long load bars such as 65 inch or 78 inch bars then you will need to select the regular Thule 450 CrossRoad roof rack system as this option allows you to select from differing length load bars. Finally, many folks prefer the premium, upscale look of the AeroBlade load bars instead of the classic square load bars. That is what makes the 450R Rapid CrossRoad roof rack an attractive option.
