Purchased for use on my Ford Edge and Freestyle with factory rails. Another great Thule product exceeded my expectations. Solid and well built and easy to set up and remove. I would highly recommend this product to others. Currently using for skis, and looking forward to using with bikes in the spring.

HondaMan asks - When we travel we want our biggest luggage and duffel bags to go on top of the roof. Our bags measure roughly 25"L X 18"W X 12"H. We definitely want to go with a hard plastic cargo roof box for the protection, aerodynamics and waterproof features. Need to confirm that I first need a roof rack crossbars system that attaches to our 2011 Honda Pilot factory side rails (there are no factory crossbars attached to the side rails). Will this CrossRoads system work? Also, what cargo roof boxes do you suggest for our needs?
ORS Crew answers - Yes, you are correct that you will need to first install a base rack crossbars system to the 2011 Honda Pilot side rails. We highly recommend the Thule 45058 Crossroad roof rack system for use as a 2011 Honda Pilot roof rack crossbars system. Attaches quickly to the side rails and also includes locks for securing the rack to the side rails. You can then attach any cargo-luggage boxes to the crossbars. All cargo boxes are universal mounting, so they will all work on the 45058 Crossroad bars. For your luggage needs we highly recommend a few cargo boxes such as the Thule 686XT Atlantis 1600 box, the Thule 604 Ascent 1600 box and the Yakima SkyBox 16 box. All are 100% waterproof, have lifetime warranties and include locks.
Y. Tremblay asks - I want to install a roof box on my 2008 Ford Taurus X, and I like the Ascent 1700 model. I need a base rack system with cross bars as well. What Thule base rack can I put on the 2008 Ford Taurus X side rails? The problem is the car has raised rails up front but they are flush towards the back of the roof. Suggestions?
ORS Crew answers - Regarding your concerns about the 2008 Ford Taurus X side rails, rest assured Thule Racks has extensively tested it and determined the 45058 CrossRoads is the ideal solution. You will be able to get the entire rack installed on the raised side rails region (the front part of the side rails on the Ford Taurus X rooftop) and achieve a very comfortable 27 inches of distance between the front and rear cross bars. This bar spread distance safely provides a solid foundation for attaching many roof mount gear carriers, including cargo boxes. Regarding the Ascent 1700 cargo box. This is not a good choice for the Taurus X, not because of the location of the 45058 CrossRoad roof rack cross bars, instead it is just the size of the box is not a good match for the size of the Ford Taurus. The Ascent 1700 box will not allow you to open the rear hatch door without interference. Instead we recommend going with the Thule Ascent 1600 or Ascent 1500 roof box models. They will allow the rear hatch door to open fully without contacting the back of the roof box. They will also look very well balanced and ideally matched on the Ford Taurus X.
