The Thule 554XT Hang-Two surfboard rack / sailboard rack is a deluxe surfboard carrier for transporting up to two surfboards or windsurfers. The Thule 554XT surfboard racks include universal mounting hardware, allowing the Hang-Two surf carrier to attach directly to virtually all factory rack cross bars as well as aftermarket roof rack systems including the Thule Xsporter truck racks, both Thule square load bars & elliptical Rapid Aero bars, Inno Racks crossbars and Yakima Racks round cross bars. Oversize Sure-Grip cradles and straps provide maximum lateral stability and total board protection. The use of car rack crossbar pads is not needed with this system. Includes four cradles, pair of straps and universal mounting hardware, everything you need to load and transport up to two surfboards or sailboards safely and efficiently.

I had the older style Hang-Two on my last car. When I bought the Tundra I added the Thule Xsporter truck rack and bought two sets of the 554XT Hang-Two surf racks. I have three boards and transport them to the beach every weekend. At highway speeds they don't even wiggle. The boards are held secure. This rack is super simple to install and can be added to any OEM rack.

Out of the box and on the car in 10 minutes. Throw the surfboards on top, cinch down and head to the beach. Simple. Our first Thule Racks product, and it is everything as advertised.

Simple to install, very secure, very good for the boards (no dents/dings). My kids are Junior Guards and these racks have made our lives so much easier. Two big blue training boards mount in one set easily and SOOOO quick. CON: Because we are just using the OEM roof racks, they are not wide enough for two sets of Hang-Two side by side. So you will want to also get the factory side rail connecting Thule base rack system with longer load bars for side by side mounting.

This is as secure and simple a surf rack as you’ll find and it is easy to install and operate. Boards go on and off fast and easy. Not much more to it really. Highly recommend.

I use the Thule 554XT and it’s been killer. I wanted a board carrier with real straps, not stretchy ones, because I don’t want my boards flying off the roof when I’m cruising to the beach. You never know when rubber will decide to snap in half and then you're bummin. I found that you don't need to crank down the straps too tight either, just get them snug enough. They won’t go anywhere. One other thing, for those who aren’t sure. Don’t mount your board kook style. Fins go forward.

The rack works great; however, my only complaint is that I had to purchase longer bolts to mount the rack to my factory sliding bed rack which has oversized oval bars. Once doing so it fit fine.

FLOE910 asks - Will this work as a 2010 Honda Fit surfboard rack?
ORS Crew answers - Yes, but you will first need to install the Thule 480 Traverse roof rack system to the 2010 Honda Fit cartop. You can then attach the 554XT surf rack to the 480 Traverse base rack cross bars.
Ray asks - I have a Toyota FJ Cruiser with factory roof rack. Will the Thule 554XT Hang-Two surfboard rack fit my roof rack bars directly?
ORS Racks Direct Crew - No the Toyota FJ Cruiser setup is one of the very few exceptions where the 554XT will not mount to the factory rack crossbars. You will first need to attach the Thule 450 Crossroad or Thule 450R Rapid Crossroad base rack systems to the Toyota FJ Cruiser side rails. Alternatively, check out the Inno surfboard racks. They will mount directly to your factory bars.
bimmersurfer asks - I have a BMW 3 series wagon with OEM roof rack cross bars. Will the Hang-Two work on them?
ORS Crew answers - Yes it attaches directly to the BMW 3 wagon OEM rack crossbars.

ORS Crew answers - Yes it attaches directly to the factory cross bars and serves as a superb 2001 BMW 525 surfboard rack. No adapters needed.
Mike G. asks - How long are the straps. Is it long enough to put two 30 inch SUP boards on it?
ORS Crew answers - The straps are approximately 9 feet but the Hang Two is not ideal for SUP’s. The saddles sit too low to the load bar so the SUP which bows out in the middle rests on the load bar vs. having the edge of the SUP sit on the saddles. A better solution would be the Thule 810 SUP Taxi stand-up paddleboard rack.
AC asks - How do you recommend positioning the board on the rack front to aft? I need to haul two long boards cross country and don't want to damage them.... do you recommend positioning them more forward or such that they hang off the back of the car more? Thanks!
ORS Crew answers - Firstly, Thule recommends that, whenever possible, place the boards in the carrier with tail forward. Secondly, it is advisable to position the rack and boards as far forward on the roof as possible without obstructing the view of the driver. Also, for totally stabilizing the front and rear of longboards, the Yakima SUP Brah tie-downs are a great accessory to consider.

ORS Crew answers - Absolutely, all systems go with the 554XT surfboard rack attaching directly to the Thule AeroBlade bars.
