The Thule 579XT canoe rack comes with padded cradles offering maximum stability and a soft, comfortable resting place for your canoe. Canoe rack comes complete with four 579XT L-brackets, two heavy duty straps, buckle protectors and a pair of Thule 855 Quickdraw ratcheting tie down straps for securing the bow and stern of canoe. Includes four rubber padded cradles for attaching to Thule Racks or Inno Racks front and rear load bars. Attaches to Thule and Inno square load bars only.

Thule Rack and Canoe Kit: perfect fit for Subaru WRX

I carry a 13' 6" canoe on my Subaru WRX all over the place for solo paddling trips- the Thule rack and 579XT canoe carry kit work almost perfectly... The only reason I say "almost" is that due to the width of my canoe, I have actually got the rear canoe clips mounted backwards so that the canoe will fit! But the fact is, with a wide canoe on a fairly small car, I think it says good things that the Thule Canoe Carrier is flexible enough to still hold my canoe securely at speed and over rough terrain any way. An excellent design. The load straps and tie-downs are excellent too- I had thought I would end up making my own, but the included ones work just fine. I usually go solo and it only takes two minutes to load or unload the canoe myself. Excellent canoe carrier that should work for ANY canoe on ANY vehicle with the proper Thule rack.

Greg L. asks - I want to carry 2 canoes side by side on my 2007 Toyota RAV4. It has side rails so I need a roof rack with cross bars to attach to the side rails. I think I need the Thule 450 Crossroad base rack system, but confused about what length cross bars I should select for carrying two canoes.
ORS Crew answers - You are correct that you will want to go with the Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack system. It will connect to your 2007 Toyota RAV4 factory side rails. This system will allow you to select from differing length load bars. You will need to select either the 65 inch or 78 inch length load bars if you are carrying 2 canoes at the same time. Our advice is to place both canoes upside down (gunwales facing down) and side by side. Then measure from the widest point on the outside of one canoe over to the widest point out on the other canoe. This total distance will tell you which length cross bars you need to choose with the Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack system. We also recommend getting two sets of Thule 579XT canoe carriers (one set each for carrying the two canoes).

ORS Crew answers - Those are just standard rain channels that you can ignore. You won't be attaching anything to it. You will want to use the Thule 480 Traverse roof rack system (includes 480 Traverse Feet, Fit Kit and load bars). Select the Thule 1511 Fit Kit for the 2012 Toyota Tacoma cab roof and at least the 58" length load bars. You can then attach the Thule 579XT canoe rack to the load bars.
