The Thule 599XTR Big Mouth bike rack combines value and function with an an easy-to-reach adjustment lever for simple loading and securing of the bicycle. Self adjusting clamping jaws automatically wrap around the bicycle frame downtube for precision hold. Transports virtually all types of bikes, including those with oversized bike frames with downtubes up to 3-3/8" in diameter (virtually all bikes fit within this measurement). Ideal for kids bicycles, bmx bikes, womens & hybrid bike frames, road & mountain bikes etc. No hassling with having to remove a bike wheel before loading the bicycle onto the carrier.
The Thule 599XTR Big Mouth attaches directly to Thule square load bars, Inno Roof Rack crossbars and Yakima round cross bars. Compatible with elliptical Thule Rapid Aero bars and Thule Xsporter truck rack using the Thule Car-Truck Rack Xadapt2 adapter kit. Also connects to car factory racks using the Thule 532 Ride-On Adapter. Dual locking design, simultaneously locks bicycle to the bike rack and the carrier itself to the car rack crossbars using one Thule lock cylinder (not included; see accessory add-ons below).

The design of this rack is great, compared to my old axle mount this is way quicker and more convenient. I don't know why I ignored this type of rack previously, maybe I was too used to the axle mount or the price. This is a bit more money but I feel it's justified with convenience. I bought two of them and have them mounted on a Thule rapid aero rack bars. I also bought the Thule Xadapt2 for the quick release bolts which slide into the aero racks' t-slots easily and cinch down securely. Really a clean look. When you close the jaws it has a piece that prevents access to the quick release bolts. Everything locks either with or without a bike in the rack so you can leave for your ride and know the rack will still be there when you get back. Neat! The jaws are easy to use just put the bike in the tray, hold the downtube with one hand while bringing up the jaws with the other, snap the lever down and lock it. Then you strap the tires normally and go. Feels very secure. If you're looking for a convenient roof-mounted bike rack, this is one I am very happy with.

Alison asks - How many lock cylinders will I need to purchase for this rack? Going by the description it seems like two. Is this correct?
ORS Crew answers - Sorry for the confusion, this bicycle carrier requires only one lock for security, which simultaneously locks the bike to the carrier and the carrier itself to the roof rack.
B. Demaris asks - Just bought from you guys a second Thule 599XTR Big Mouth bike rack. When I mount the rack to the bars they are in opposite directions. How can I get the front end of both bikes to point forward? Must be something simple?
ORS Crew answers - Yes see page 2 of the Thule 599XTR Big Mouth installation instructions. You need to just loosen the base of the bike frame holder assembly and slide it forward on the bike tray and position it so the front edge of the base on the bike frame holder assembly is 12 inches (30.5cm) from the end of the bike tray. Then retighten.
