I've had a great time so far with my Thule Ascent cargo box. I have a Mini that doesn't always have enough cargo space. Especially when I go skiing with anyone other than myself. With the Ascent, there is always tons of room for all of my gear. When I want to take it off my vehicle, it couldn't be easier. The mounting claws open and close with the turn of a knob. That new hardware is so much better than the old U-bracket with knobs hardware that my old box used. The only thing that isn't perfect is the fact that the hatch door cannot be opened all the way because the end of the box hangs out too far, even when pushed all the way forward, but I do have a Mini afterall. Also like how it locks, which by design makes sure that the box is completely closed.

I am quite pleased with the purchase of my Thule Ascent cargo box. It mounted directly to my factory crossbars with the utmost ease. It wasn't necessary for me to adjust my crossbars because the mounting clamps adjust so easily. We've been using the box all summer and it has kept the contents dry even in the heaviest downpours. It opens and closes easily and we have honestly had no problems. Also love the feature that makes you lock the box before taking out the key. This has been a great purchase and I don't know how we ever lived without it!!!

ORS Racks Direct Crew says - The Thule Ascent car roof boxes have a long range of adjustment to fit nearly any distance between the front roof rack crossbar and the rear roof rack cross bar (referred to as crossbar spread). In fact the Ascent 1700 fits any crossbars with a spread as short as 23-5/8" inches and as long as 37", Ascent 1600 fits any crossbars with a spread as short as 23-5/8" inches and as long as 35-5/8", Ascent 1500 fits any crossbars with a spread as short as 23-5/8" inches and as long as 33-1/2" and Ascent 1100 fits any crossbars with a spread as short as 23-5/8" inches and as long as 37-1/2".
HOMErr asks - I can't figure out how to change a lock cylinder on a Thule roof box. I want to change my lock but can't take the key out to put the removal key in. As you know, Thule boxes won't let you take the key out unless it is locked.
ORS Racks Direct crew answers - Yeah this probably has caused many folks to pull their hair out. But here's the answer for you and so glad you asked, this will hopefully save a lot of hair... To get a Thule lock cylinder out of a Thule box requires that you have the dedicated locking key and a master or control key. You would insert the dedicated key into the Thule lock cylinder on the cargo box and turn only 10 degrees, now pull the dedicated key out and insert the control key. You can now use the control key to wiggle a bit and the cylinder will pop out. Sounds kooky but this is really how to do it!
