Kayaks come in all shapes, styles and sizes and the amazing Thule 834 Hull-a-Port kayak rack conveniently works with them all! Easily holds any kayak up to 34" wide and/or 75 lbs. Replaces the now discontinued Thule 835XTR Hull-a-Port and now includes upgraded universal crossbar mounting clamps, allowing the Thule 834 Hull-a-Port kayak carrier to quickly connect to all styles of Thule Racks load bars (square, AeroBlade & Xsporter truck rack etc.), virtually all factory installed base rack cross bars, Inno Racks crossbars, Yakima Racks round bars, Whispbar crossbars and other aftermarket roof rack systems. The advanced, wide mouth j-cradles style design makes it very easy for just one person to load a kayak. Simply place one end of the kayak into one of the wide mouth j-cradles, then allowing that cradle to support and do the heavy lifting, simply place the other end of the kayak into the other easy loading, wide mouth j-cradle. Fully adjustable, premium padding (and plenty of it!) gently cradles and protects your boat, ensuring snug & secure positioning during transit. Ultra-strong, steel tubing construction with proprietary AllSurface rust-resistant powdercoat finish.
The innovative, semi-vertical, j-cradle design also uses up far less base rack crossbar space than other kayak racks that transport a kayak flat, providing plenty of room to attach other gear carriers at the same time, including extra Thule 834 Hull-a-Port kayak carriers if you plan to transport multiple kayaks. Compatible with any kayak styles including recreational, whitewater, ocean / sea kayaks etc. Includes front and rear Thule 834 j-cradles, all mounting hardware, 2 heavy-duty load straps, buckle bumpers and a pair of tie-down straps for optionally securing kayak bow and stern to vehicle during transport.

Securely and Easily Transports!

This rack does exactly what I need it to do: securely transport my kayaks with easy setup. I bought two and have been very pleased - the universal mounting easily fits my aero crossbars, and the buckles tighten very securely. (Just got enough courage to drive on the interstate, and it did quite well.) I had ordered the 835XTR, which Thule quit producing and delivering, and the ORS customer rep was great at communicating with me and offering the 834 in its place.

I was worried that my two teenage girls would not be able to do this themselves but they had no trouble. They get the kayaks on and off in just a few minutes. Love the way they look, and we will leave them on the car all summer. Excellent product!!

ORS Crew explains - This kayak carrier works on TracRac truck rack cross bars. Just be sure to use the Thule Xadapt 3 Kit.
TC asks - Does Thule have a locking system available that prevents the Hull a Port J cradle from being stolen? There must be a way to lock it to the roof rack?
DR5 responds - Tule doesn't have an integrating locking system to lock the kayak carrier to the car rack. That's why I went with the Yakima BowDown, which will lock to the car using a 2 pack of Yakima locks.
Jessica asks - Would this type of kayak rack even work on the odd shaped factory racks of a Nissan Xterra?
ORS Crew answers - Yes it works on oversize, large-diameter factory rack crossbars such as the Nissan XTerra, however you will also need to use the Thule Xadapt 3 Kit (includes 80mm long bolts) to properly mount it to the Nissan XTerra factory rack bars.
John asks - I have a '08 Subaru Outback wagon with factory roof rack bars. I have two kayaks and would like to know if I can carry both kayaks using 2 set of the 834 carriers and if this would be a good match.
ORS Crew answers - Yes, two sets of these for hauling 2 kayaks is an ideal match for the 2008 Subaru Outback factory rack crossbars. By far one of the most popular choices Subaru Outback owners go with for carrying two kayaks.
K. Carlson asks - Will this fit the 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid factory roof rack crossbars? Also can I attach 2 sets for carrying 2 kayaks? Thanks.
ORS Crew answers - Yes, this is a confirmed fit for the factory bars, a great choice for 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid kayak racks. You will have room to attach 2 sets of these on the crossbars if you want to carry 2 kayaks.
B. Kroll asks - I have a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser with factory installed cross bars and want to carry one Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 kayak, with the option of expanding to 2 kayaks total. Do you recommend this carrier? If not what other suggestions?
ORS Crew answers - When carrying 2 kayaks on the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser factory cross bars the issue is you are restricted in the length of the factory rack cross bars. Thus the 834 kayak j-cradles style carriers are a superb option for your needs. The j-cradles use up less cross bar space than the kayak saddles style (which carry a kayak laying flat), allowing you to attach two sets of j-cradle style kayak racks for transporting 2 kayaks. For the 07 Toyota FJ Cruiser oversized / large-diameter cross bars we highly recommend the Thule 835PRO Hull-a-Port (cradles fold down when not in use) and Thule 834 Hull-a-Port (same as 835PRO except cradles cannot fold) models as superb options. Pair of kayak load straps and pair of bow-stern tie-downs also included with both models.
