Decent, But A Little Worried

We took this bag on a 900 mile trip with lot's of 85mph driving and it stayed fairly secure. I'm a little worried about quality since the stitching for a small piece that covers the tiedown strap came loose (just cosmetic).

Rick_NJ asks - I know this cartop luggage bag works with factory rack cross bars but I need to doublecheck that I can use this on the 2009 Ford Escape side rails, there are no crossbars. Need to confirm this before placing my order.
ORS Crew answers - You are all set. The 857 Caravan attaches to the side rails on the 2009 Ford Escape, no need for the cross bars (of course it works on cars with factory rack cross bars too).
Melissa Olander asks - Will this work on the naked rooftop of my 2010 Acura MDX? There's no factory rack or anything on top.
ORS Crew answers - No, you need at least side rails for this carrier to work. Great alternatives are the Yakima FarOut Pro and the Yakima GetOut Pro. These will both work nicely on the bare rooftop of the 2010 Acura MDX. Again, the 857 Caravan will work on any Acura MDX that has side rails and/or roof rack cross bars.
Sanders K. asks - This looks to be like a good choice my 2009 Chevy Traverse factory rack crossbars. Would like to confirm this before ordering.

ORS Crew answers - Yes this is a superb choice for a 2007 Subaru Outback roof bag.
Evelyn asks- I've seen complaints about the water resistance and the fact that the insides get all flaky and damaged when subjected to frost. Does this bag lay directly on the rooftop to soak in water that would be accumulating or is there a space that permits water to run? As for the flaking of the inner layer, is this covered by the Thule lifetime warranty?
ORS Crew answers - The bag does sit flat on the rooftop. However, this region is thickly padded and protected from any elements. Where the issue would occur is in the zipper stitching. The 857 is definitely not as robust as the much more heavy-duty 867 Tahoe. The 867 is built to withstand extreme weather conditions including rain, ice etc. There is no bag that is 100% waterproof however. We always recommend placing items in large trash bags as an extra layer of protection. For full 100% waterproof protection you would need to go with a hard-shell cargo roof box. Also, any 'flaking' or any other type of deterioration that you refer to is fully covered under the Thule Racks lifetime warranty.
LM asks - Can you tell me whether this will work with our 2005 Ford Focus Wagon with just factory side rails? I took a look at the PDF installation guide and it shows it being installed on a car with cross bars.

The 857 Thule Caravan bag attaches directly to any aftermarket racks, including Thule Racks, Inno Racks and Yakima Racks, plus virtually all factory racks too (even vehicles with just factory side rails & no crossbars).
The Thule 867 Tahoe roof bag is a larger alternative with a 17 cubic foot carrying capacity AND offers the best water-resistant protection of any car roof mount cargo luggage bag.
We highly recommend either the LashLock or SteelCore locking straps (not included; see accessory add-ons above) for maximum security of roof bag contents when left unattended.
