The Thule 878XT Set-to-Go Saddle kayak racks are the most adaptable kayak saddles available. Provides the perfect combination of boat hull conformance and lateral stability. Sold as a pair allowing for various set-up options: OPTION 1) Order two pairs to make a complete set, one pair each attaches to roof rack front and rear load bars creating an excellent sturdy and stable kayak rack solution. OPTION 2) Or mix and match by using one pair of 878XT saddles on the front car rack cross bar with a pair of Thule 875XT Hydro Glide Saddle (not included; see accessory add-ons below) on the rear roof rack cross bar for easy and efficient kayak loading and unloading.
Attaches directly to both Thule square load bars & elliptical Rapid Aero bars, Thule Xsporter truck rack, Inno Car Rack crossbars, Yakima round cross bars and virtually all factory roof racks with cross bars (we recommend using our handy Thule Racks Automated Fit Guide, see above or below, to check compatibility with vehicle factory rack systems). Accommodates multiple hull shapes for transporting kayaks and even rowing shells. Includes pair of saddles, all mounting hardware, 1 heavy-duty strap, buckle bumper and one Thule 855 Quickdraw ratcheting tie down strap for boat bow or stern.

Awesome - Very Easy to Install and Use

(PLEASE NOTE: this review also includes the Thule 875XT Hydro-Glide saddles and Thule 422XT Xsporter truck rack). I thought the installation of the Thule 422XT Xsporter truck rack and the Thule XK1 adapter kit was very easy, and the kayak racks were easy to mount to the crossbars. The only confusion I had was when I ordered my system using the Thule Racks fit guide there was a little confusion in what exactly to order. I have two kayaks that I want to transport. However, using the Thule Racks fit guide it was not obvious that ordering two 878XT's is only half the solution. After speaking with ORS technicians they told me that I would also need two 875XT Hydroglides. I think the Thule Fit guide could be improved to avoid any confusion.

ORS Racks Direct crew says - This carrier works on oversize, large-diameter factory rack crossbars such as the Nissan XTerra, as well as the Thule-DeWalt 375 / 376 PRO truck racks, however you will also need to use the Thule Xadapt 3 Kit (includes 80mm long bolts) to properly mount it to the Nissan XTerra factory rack bars.

If loading boats from the rear of the car we highly recommend the Thule 854 Water Slide Mat (not included; see accessory add-ons above) for simultaneously protecting your vehicle and also gaining extra assistance when loading and unloading a boat.
We recommend either the SteelCore lock straps, Kayak Lasso or the Lashlock kayak lock system (not included; see accessory add-ons above) to protect your boat from theft.
