The Thule 883 Glide and Set kayak rack offers an excellent combination of easy kayak loading & unloading and great snug & secure kayak grip during transport. The Thule 883 Glide & Set is a complete system for carrying one kayak. Works with all types of kayaks. Includes one pair of 875XT Hydro-Glide saddles (for the rear load bar) and one pair of 878XT Set to Go saddles (for the front load bar). The included front mounted pair of 878XT Set to Go form fitting saddles grip the surface of the hull for increased lateral stability and protection. The included rear mounted 875XT Hydro-Glide felt lined saddles guide the kayak and provide low friction for smoother loading and unloading.
Thule 883 system attaches directly to both Thule square load bars & elliptical Rapid Aero bars, Thule Xsporter truck racks, Inno Car Rack crossbars, Yakima round cross bars and virtually all factory roof racks with cross bars (we recommend using our Thule Racks Automated Fit Guide, see above or below, to check compatibility with vehicle factory racks). Includes front and rear kayak saddles, all mounting hardware, 2 heavy-duty straps, buckle bumpers and a pair of Thule 855 Quickdraw ratcheting tie down straps for securing kayak bow and stern.

I went with the 883 Glide and Set rack style so that the kayak wouldn't ride so high on the roof of my van. I am using factory cross bars. The kayak fit is very snug on the rack, without indenting the sides/bottom of my poly kayak. This to me is the biggest positive. I've got an old foam rack that puts pressure on the bottom of the kayak and dents the hull. Loading my "heavy" kayak is not all that simple and the kayak usually slips off of the slide and onto my van roof. I would recommend the slide with roller.

ORS Racks Direct crew says - This carrier works on oversize, large-diameter factory rack crossbars such as the Nissan XTerra, as well as the Thule-DeWalt 375 / 376 PRO truck racks, however you will also need to use the Thule Xadapt 3 Kit (includes 80mm long bolts) to properly mount it to the Nissan XTerra factory rack bars.
Hector asks - Will the 883 work on the Thule-Dewalt 375 truck rack I have on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truckbed?
ORS Crew answers - Yes, just make sure to use the Thule Xadapt3 Kit when attaching this kayak rack (and most other Thule kayak carriers) to the 375 PRO and 376 PRO truck rack load bars.
Chris asks - Will the Thule 883 kayak saddles fit on my older Saris roof rack crossbars? Do I need an adapter?
ORS Crew answers - The Thule 883 will work on the Saris rack cross bars without issue. If you ever come across a situation where you need longer carriage bolts for extra wide / thick cross bars you can always use the Thule Xadapt3 bolt kit. It includes a set of eight 80mm extra-long bolts.

We recommend also using a kayak lock strap system (additional accessory item; not included) with each kayak for security when the kayak is unattended on the car roof.

If loading boats from the rear of the car we highly recommend the Thule 854 Water Slide Mat (not included; see accessory add-ons above) for simultaneously protecting your vehicle and also gaining extra assistance when loading and unloading a boat.
We recommend either the SteelCore lock straps, Kayak Lasso or the Lashlock kayak lock system (not included; see accessory add-ons above) to protect your boat from theft.
