The Tilt-Down Thule 912 Roadway hitch bike rack fits both 1.25" and 2" hitches! This is a mid-level performance hitch mounting bike carrier (replaces the discontinued Thule 936XT & 937XT hitch racks). The 912 Thule Roadway combines performance with ease of use. Includes Thule T3 Cradles for a superb snug attachment of bikes while still allowing complete adjustment along the bike arms. Hitch bike rack arms also fold down when not in use via the Thule Hitch Switch quick-release lever. Many bike stability and locking security accessories available separately, such as the 955 No Sway Cages (not included; see accessories below) to prevent bikes from swinging around, Thule STL2 hitch lock (not included; see accessories below) to secure the rack to the hitch receiver & the Thule 538 Cable Lock (not included; see accessories below) that locks the bikes to the rack. The Thule Stinger Swinger universal hitch connection now lets you attach to either a 2" or 1.25" hitch receiver, the choice is yours (great for transferring between vehicles too). Easily holds up to two bicycles.

The problem is I can't really tell from the pictures or their descriptions what the main differences are between the Thule Roadway racks and the more expensive Ridgeline rack. We're definitely working on doing a better job of differentiating our products with better descriptions and pictures, but we realize sometimes it's still hard to tell what the heck makes one bike rack different from another. Regarding the Ridgline vs the Roadway series, it's best to think of the Road way bike racks as just stripped down versions of the more fully-featured 954 Ridgeline. The 914 & 912 Roadway are both constructed and designed the same as the Ridgeline with the highest quality materials to last a very long time. The Ridgeline includes many more features for stabilizing the bikes while in transport and also securing and locking the hitch rack and bikes so you'll have peace of mind when leaving the system unattended. You can however upgrade the Roadway hitch racks whenever you want because many of the features on the Ridgeline are available as additional accessories for the 912 / 914 / 915 Roadway carriers. While the 914 carries four bikes same as the Ridgeline, the 912 and 915 are unique because the 912 carries two bikes and the 915 can hold a whopping 5 bikes. The 912 & 914 are straight-forward middle of the pack hitch mount bike carriers. They are made of very solid construction, and neither models pivot or develop play when installed in the hitch receivers. We do like Thule Racks new Stinger Swinger feature, which these racks have, so you can connect the hitch bike rack to either a 1 1/4" hitch or a 2" hitch without needing any extra adapters or anything (which we've found can sometimes cause a small amount of movement of the rack when on less then perfectly smooth road surfaces). What we struggle with is the price vs features. Most users will definitely prefer to upgrade to the extra bike transport stability using the Thule 955 No Sway Cages and the locking security via the Thule STL2 hitch lock and bike cable lock. But add all this up and you're better off with the Thule 954 Ridgeline. The one caveat is if you are dead set on carrying just two bikes maximum, then the 912 does make sense.
