MADE IN THE U.S.A.
The Thule 916XTR T2 hitch bike rack (fits 2" hitches) is the premier platform style hitch rack, representing the pinnacle in hitch mount bike rack technology and innovation. Thule T2 916XTR fits any 2" hitch. Features the proprietary Thule Racks SecureHook system, offering lightning-quick bike loading that takes only seconds - simply place bike in bike tray and SecureHook grabs the front wheel. Includes an integrated cable lock on the end of each SecureHook to lock bicycle to the rack. Thule 916XTR T2 holds 2 bikes (we highly recommend the Thule 918XTR T2 2 Bike Add-On to carry an additional two bikes if you want to transport four bikes total). The 916XTR Thule T2 platform bike rack accommodates virtually all bicycle styles and sizes regardless of frame design, suspension, or wheel size - kids bikes and bmx bikes with 20" wheels on up to any style road bike, cruisers, hybrids, freeride-downhill mountain bikes with full suspension, even 29er bikes and ultra-wide 3" tire sizes. Premium HitchSwitch lever enables rack to fold up when not in use or tilt down, even with bikes on, for full rear of vehicle access.
Simply place each bicycle in the bike rack trays and the patented SecureHook support arms grip the front wheel and firmly secure all types of bicycles. Never touches the bike frame. The Thule 916XTR T2 platform bike rack replaces the discontinued 916XT T2 model, and now includes full system security - 2-pack of Thule locks & keys included to lock the cable locks on each SecureHook, preventing low-down dirty thieves from stealing your bikes. Also includes Thule STL2 Snug-Tite hitch lock to lock the T2 to the trailer hitch. STL2 Snug-Tite also features anti-wobble technology, eliminating any movement of the T2 platform bike rack, even on rough roads. Rear wheel cradles offer full sliding adjustability to fit any size bicycles and include rear wheel ratcheting straps to quickly secure wheel in place.
ATTENTION, PLEASE NOTE: The 919 Thule Fat Tire Bike Kit (sold separately; see accessory add-ons below) allows the T2 Series bike racks (and 918XTR Two Bike Add-On) to carry fat tire bikes with tire widths up to 5".
(*the included T2 wheel holders fit widths of 3" or less)
- Thule 916XTR T2 hitch bike rack fits 2 inch receiver hitches (Thule 917XTR T2 hitch bike rack model available for 1-1/4 inch trailer hitches).
- Thule 916XTR T2 is the premier platform bike tray hitch rack, fastest loading and removal of bicycles with only minimal lifting required. Much easier and convenient than roof rack mount bike carriers, trunk mount racks and virtually all other hitch mount bike racks available.
- Holds 2 bikes (we highly recommend the Thule 918XTR T2 2 Bike Add-On to carry an additional two bikes).
- Super-duty, long-lasting construction with reinforced bike trays that provide maximum strength and rust-free protection. Each bike tray holds up to 60 lbs and up to 160 lbs total load rating.
- No wheel removal necessary, no bike frame contact either. Ideal for transporting any bicycles with non-traditional frame designs, disc brakes, thru-axles, suspension systems etc.
- Full system security included - 2-pack of Thule locks & keys included to lock the cable locks on each SecureHook, preventing rotten scoundrels from stealing your bikes. Also includes Thule STL2 Snug-Tite hitch lock to lock the entire 916XTR T2 bike carrier to the trailer hitch receiver. STL2 Snug-Tite also features anti-wobble technology, eliminating any movement of the T2 platform bike rack, even on rough roads.
- Proprietary Thule Racks Hitch Switch lever enables rack to fold up for nice clean look and allows enough room for parking in garage, parallel parking etc. HitchSwitch also allows the rack to tilt down, even with bikes on, for full rear of vehicle access.
- Simply place bike in bike tray and SecureHook grabs the front wheel, never touches the bike frame. Fully adjusting rear wheel cradle with strap secures back bike wheel.
- Accommodates virtually all bicycle styles and sizes regardless of frame design, suspension, or wheel size - kids bikes and bmx bikes with 20" wheels on up to any style road bike, cruisers, hybrids, freeride-downhill mountain bikes with full suspension, even 29er bikes and ultra-wide 3" tire sizes.

The Ultimate Hitch Mounted Bike Rack
this Thule 916XTR T2 bike rack review by Easy Rider
vehicle year/make/model: 2003 Chevy Tahoe 2" trailer hitch
item(s) transported: Road Bikes
I have had many hitch bike racks over the years. I was tired of spending excess time loading bikes on racks that used paint damaging straps, having to secure front wheels so they didn't swing back and forth, etc. Aside from the fact that this rack is heavy, it is extremely well made. I can load two bikes of any size and style in about two minutes and they are SECURE. No more damage to paint on frames, no bike to bike rubbing of handle bars and components. Although your description doesn't mention it, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this rack automatically comes with keyed locks for both the hitch and two bikes. I am very pleased with this purchase!

Top notch product, what you'd expect from Thule.

vehicle year/make/model: 2007 Toyota Highlander
item(s) transported: mountain and road bikes
I purchased the Thule T2 after researching several bike racks online. It received the best reviews all around and I couldn't agree more. It's sturdy and I don't worry about the bikes even when traveling long distances on the highway. I like that the Thule T2 holds bikes of all sizes. I use it to transport my mountain bike as well as my tri bike without any problems. Loading is easy and I don't have to worry about the rack scratching the frame or the bikes rubbing against each other. Definitely worth the investment.
Rack of All Racks!
this Thule 916XTR T2 review by Dustin
vehicle year/make/model: 2004 Kia Sorento
item(s) transported: 29er Mountain Bikes, Road Bikes, and 24" BMX bikes
I recently switched from a rack that held the bikes by the frame to the T2. I could not be more pleased. It's so much easier racking bikes on the platform design and you don't have to worry about the rack rubbing the frame. Took a little time to set-up/install but it's a solid rack. I also inserted the lock cores so I can lock up the bikes. This rack makes transporting my bikes much easier. The only problem is everyone else wanted to drive before because they didn't want to use my previous rack, now I have to drive!
The Perfect Bike Carrier

I purchased the Thule T2 in January and have been completely satisfied. The cable locks for the bikes are really nice and the lock for the hitch is also great for making sure your rack is secure at all times. I have several different size and types of bicycles and the Thule T2 handles them all easily and with no modifications. You can't go wrong with this rack.
Easy, Stable and Great Quality
this Thule 916XTR T2 review by Dennis
vehicle year/make/model: 2008 Lexus RX400h
item(s) transported: Bicycles (road, mountain and kids)
Spent about a week reading reviews between the Thule 916XTR T2 and the Yakima Holdup since they are the popular two that do not touch any painted part of the bike. I then decided to stay with Thule because I've used their products in the past and have always been very happy. The 916XTR T2 rack has a very solid feel and is very stable. The bikes can be mounted and locked literally within seconds and have enough space between them so that no parts of the bikes are touching each other. Besides doing a good lob of locking the bike rack, the Thule Snug-Tite hitch lock does not sway side to side. The assembly is pretty simple and real easy as well. Lastly, I had to decide where to order the rack. ORS seems to have their act together and have good customer service so I went ahead and placed the order with them. Everything went smoothly.
Discuss the platform-style 916XTR Thule T2 hitch mount bike rack. Use the form below to fire away with your questions, answers and general comments about this product.
ORS Crew explains - The only difference between the 916XTR T2 model and the 916XT T2 model is that Thule Racks upgraded the 916XTR with a cable lock on the end of each SecureHook that pulls out and wraps around the bike for total security. The 916XT version only has a lock on the SecureHook clamp arm. There was much discussion about how you could deflate the tire and get the bike wheel out from the clamp arm even when locked, enabling someone to possibly steal the bike. The new cable lock on the 916XTR T2 version resolves this issue. You could use a regular bike cable lock on the 916XT T2 to pretty much accomplish the same level of security.
Todd asks - How many lock cylinders are required to outfit the T2? I know I need the locking hitch pin, but how many to outfit the cable locks on the clamp arms?
ORS Crew answers - Don't buy any extra locks or keys! The T2 includes a 2 pack of Thule lock cylinders & keys that insert into each of the cable locks on the SecureHook clamping arm to lock the bikes to the T2. Also the Thule STL2 Snug-Tite hitch pin lock is also included to lock the T2 to the trailer hitch receiver. The STL2 hitch lock and the cable locks are keyed the same so you can use the same key to lock / unlock all of them.
KCD asks - Will the Thule 916XTR and 917XTR work with fenders on the bike?
ORS Crew answers - Aha, great question. Actually, Thule specifies to not use this product with a bike that has tire fenders. This prevents snug hook grip on tire. A good alternative would be the Thule 990XT DoubleTrack hitch bike rack, as it holds the bike in place on the bike frame rather than clamping onto the wheel.
Joe asks - I want one of these racks, but have been told will not work with my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with the rear mounted spare. Trying to verify. Is there any other product similar to the 916XTR T2 that will work?
ORS Crew answers - The issue is not the spare tire itself, rather how far recessed your hitch actually sits under your vehicle. If you always left the rack folded down you would have no problem. However, when folded up the spare tire will likely be in the way. This Thule Hitch Bike Racks Diagrams & Dimensions Chart is a good reference. For platform rack models you are interested in the "C" measurement, the distance between the hitch pin hole and the inside edge of the folded up bike tray. In general, platform racks will have issues in folded up position on cars with spare tires. The upright, hanging-style hitch bike racks are a better option. You can see the distance beween the hitch pin hole and the mast (measurement 'B') is much longer to clear spare tires. The Thule 964 Revolver is an excellent option for your 2008 Jeep Wranger Sahara. Also a spare tire mount bike rack is a very good alternative to consider.
Nancy asks - I have a truck with a slide-in camper that overhangs the tailgate/bumper so would like to mount a bike carrier on the front end hitch. Would the T2 work?
ORS Crew answers - Yes, we’ve had several customers with this request for a front mount hitch bike rack. We highly recommend the Thule 916XTR T2 platform bike rack, which will mount to a 2" front hitch receiver. Here is an example picture of the T2 used as a Ford F450 front hitch bike rack.
Fred T. asks - How much do the Thule 916 XTR T2 and 917 XTR T2 models actually weigh?
ORS Crew answers - The 916XTR and 917XTR T2 bike racks each weigh roughly 56 lbs out of the box.
D. Withers asks - I have beach bikes with fenders, will this work with them?
ORS Crew answers - Because of the clamping arm that ratchets down on the front wheel, you will have less than ideal security if you have front fenders. Instead, you will want to go with the Thule 990XT DoubleTrack for beach bikes with fenders on the front and rear wheels.
J. Hamblin asks - My bikes have fenders over the wheels. Will the T2 bike rack still work?
ORS Crew answers - It is not recommended to use this carrier with bike fenders, as the fenders will prevent the ratcheting clamp hook from fitting snug and secure on the bike wheel. Instead we highly recommend the Thule 990XT DoubleTrack trailer hitch mount bike rack as a superb option for carrying bikes with fenders. The 990XT is universally compatible with 2" and 1-1/4" trailer hitches.
N.C.G. asks - It appears, as mentioned in an ORS explanation, that the front wheel could be removed/stolen while the SecureHook is in place. Can lock cylinders be added to the SecureHook as an extra measure of visual security? Is the cable lock long enough to thread through the wheel & around the frame? How secure is the cable lock arrangement? What about the back wheel?
ORS Crew answers - The integrated bike frame cable lock is long enough that you could thread through the front wheel before wrapping around the bike frame. You can also add a lock core to each SecureHook ratchet assembly. So a 2-pack of Thule locks would also do the trick (unless you are also adding the 918XTR T2 Add On to the 916XTR T2 for a total of 4 bike trays. Then go with the 4-pack of locks. This will aid in ensuring the SecureHook remains firmly in place, preventing any theft of the front wheel. For the rear wheels we recommend using a Thule 538XT bike cable lock to weave through all the rear wheels and wrap around the bike frames. No security cable is 100% theft-proof, however the integrated cable lock for the bike frame is indeed heavy-duty.
