The swing-away Thule 964 Revolver 4 bike hitch rack is indeed the grand-daddy of hitch mount bicycle carriers. The swing-away design features the utmost in convenience in accessing the rear of your vehicle even when all the bicycles are loaded on the carrier! The Thule 964 Revolver is an absolutely premium hitch bike rack. Fits 2 inch hitch receivers. All bike stability and locking security accessories included. The integrated cable lock & key secures all bikes to the hitch rack (cable lock stores inside hitch rack when not in use) while the included Thule STL2 Snug Tite lock & key both eliminates bike rack wobble and locks the bike hitch rack to 2" hitch receiver. Innovative Thule T3 Cradle and Thule 955 No Sway Cage combination delivers ultra-easy bike adjustment and full stability of bicycles, preventing bikes from swaying or movement while in transport (no bike to bike contact or touching the vehicle itself). Bike rack arms fold down when not in use via the Hitch Switch quick-release lever. Thule 964 Revolver carries up to 4 bikes.

Thule 964 Revolver 4 holds up to four bikes and fits 2" hitch receivers (not compatible with 1 1/4" hitches (we recommend the Thule 954 Ridgeline for this application).
Features totally effortless rear vehicle access with swing-away design.
Thule T3 cradles lock down bikes and cradles while still allowing complete adjustment along the bike arms. The Thule 955 No-Sway Cages prevent any bike movement so there's no bike to bike contact & bikes won't hit the car.
The 964 Revolver is compatible with virtually all bike frame sizes and shapes. We do recommend purchasing the Thule 982 Top Tube Frame Adapter (not included; see accessory add-ons below) for easy attachment of certain bikes without top tube frames including some kids, women's, freeride / downhill bike & bmx frames.
Features the Thule Hitch Switch, a quick release lever on the bike rack arms for lightning quick folding down of the bike rack arms when not in use. Ideal for parallel parking and pulling into garages.

Overall a Great Rack!

I chose the Tule Revolver because it didn’t appear to be as bulky as some of the other swing away style hitch bike racks that I've seen. It works very well for carrying 4 bikes, no matter what types of bikes you are loading. The bike cradles do a superb job of keeping the bikes from swaying and hitting each other or the back of my truck. The fold down arms and the swing away action are very sweet too. Overall, an excellent bike rack and well worth the higher price in my opinion.

Chris D. asks - Can the rack swing away to the side with the bikes still on?

ORS Crew answers - Yes, you can leave all the bikes on while swinging the rack off to the side.

ORS Crew explains - If your vehicle has a rear mounted spare tire you must do your homework first to determine if a Thule hitch bike rack will work or not. This simply means taking a couple quick measurements and referring to our handy Thule Hitch Bike Racks Diagrams & Dimensions Chart. This is an excellent reference chart and you are most interested in (measurement 'B'), which measures the distance between the hitch pin hole and the inside edge of the hitch bike rack upright mast. This measurement for the 964 is 10.75". If the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch receiver is pretty much flush with the outer edge of your bumper (or even is positioned further out from the bumper) then you can be confident the hitch bike rack upright mast will clear the rear mounted spare tire. If the trailer hitch receiver pin hole is recessed underneath the vehicle, then you will have to measure how far that hitch pin hole is from the outer edge of the rear spare tire. If that distance is less than 10.75" then the hitch bike rack will not extend far back enough to clear the spare tire.

ORS Crew answers - This carrier weighs 38 lbs.

Jim H. asks - Has anyone tried using a 1.25 to 2 inch hitch converter to mount a Thule Revolver or Yakima Swingdaddy to a 1.25 mount? What are the drawbacks to this configuration, if any?

ORS Crew answers - The big issue is that it will void the manufacturer warranty on the bike rack. Otherwise, many people use hitch converters all the time. We have not personally, to date, heard of any issues or problems encountered with using converters with any hitch mount bike racks, including swing away models and platform style bike racks.
