The Thule Aero Fit Kits are designed to fasten to the Thule 400XT Aero Foot Pack and Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero Foot Pack, creating a base rack solution for vehicle's without rain gutters, factory racks, side rails etc. The Thule Podium Fit Kits are for use with Thule 460 Podium Foot Pack & Thule 460R Rapid Podium Foot Pack, offering an excellent solution for certain vehicles with flush side rails, factory roof tracks (including all Thule Tracks) and fixed attachment points located on many newer model car roof tops.
There are many Thule Aero Fit Kits available for use with the Thule 400XT Aero Foot Pack / 400XTR Rapid Aero Foot Pack and many Thule Podium Fit Kits available for use with the Thule 460 Podium Foot Pack / 460 Rapid Podium Foot Pack. Each Thule Fit Kit is designed specifically for use on specific vehicle makes / models (see our Thule Racks automated fit guide above or below to determine the Fit Kit brackets required for your vehicle). Joe asks - I think I need the Podium system for my 2008 BMW 328 4-door sedan. What Podium Fit Kit would I need?
ORS Crew answers - You will need the Thule 3028 Podium Fit Kit brackets to go with the Thule 460 Podium Foot Pack that connects to to your 2008 BMW 328 fixed rack attachment points located on the roof top.
Karen S. asks - I have a 2009 Honda Accord sedan with a Thule 400XT Aero Foot Pack + 2193 Fit Kit. I have a huge problem trying to install the rack system. The instructions that came with the Fit Kit tell me to put the front at 11 inches and about 24-26 inches for the rear (I forgot the distance between bars, it's somewhere between 24-26). The problem that I come across is that when putting the front 11 inches from the windshield and locking in the arms, the fit kit ends up pushing out of the doorsill. I don't feel comfortable knowing that the Fit Kit ends up being pushed out, nor is the lock mechanism on the 400XT arms flush. Is there an alternative measurement that will allow the arms/fit kit to be flush with the doors, so it won't protrude out of the door sills?
ORS Crew answers - This is a common problem, and one common enough that folks should in most cases take with a grain of salt the measurements Thule (and Yakima) provide with their instructions. They make them seem so precise and exacting but we’ve found many times you have to move the Foot forward of back, or even move the Foot inboard or outboard on the bar to get the best fit. In this case, to resolve the pushed out issue, try the two options of 1) moving the Foot and Fit Kit a little further back or forward along the roofline or 2) move the Foot and Fit Kit a little further inboard on the roof to tighten up more at the point they are trying to attach. Trying these methods solve the problem.
Tom asks - I have a Thule 400XT Aero for the roof of my Honda Ridgeline used with the Thule 997 Goalpost. I haul two sea kayaks (16'). Just purchased a 2010 Toyota Tundra and need a new Fit Kit for the 4002XT Aero Foot Pack on the cab roof. What kit number do I use?
