The Yakima Control Towers (8000214) are the base rack solution for cars and trucks with factory racks, as well as other applications. Yakima Control Towers attach to factory rack tracks (or directly to roof on some cars & also Yakima permanent Tracks), replacing the weak and/or incompatible factory rack with a strong & dependable Yakima multi-purpose base rack system. Packaged as a set of four Towers. Requires two Yakima cross bars (not included; see accessory add-ons below) and four Yakima Landing Pads (not included; see accessory add-ons below). Purchasing just the set of 4 Yakima Control Towers is a great way to transfer your existing Yakima base roof rack system to a new vehicle cheaply without the need to buy an entirely new base rack system. Also available as a complete Yakima Control Towers base roof rack system.
PLEASE NOTE: Besides replacing factory racks, Yakima Control Towers also mount to certain vehicles with fixed attachment points such as Honda Element, CR-V etc (specific Landing Pads made for these fits). The Yakima Control Towers can also mount to Yakima roof tracks in combination with a set of four Yakima #1 Landing Pads. Additionally, the Control Towers can permanently mount to Yakima #7 Landing Pads (for metal surfaces) & Yakima #6 Landing Pads (for fiberglass surfaces) for fiberglass truck cap, camper shell or tonneau cover etc & sheet metal roofs that have no factory rack already.
The Yakima Control Tower is user-friendly with click-on/click-off mounting -- no tools required. For use with the Yakima Landing Pads (not included; see accessory add-ons below) which quickly replace factory rack and snap into factory rack tracks. Control towers are the way to go if you have the option of either those or the Q-Towers. Not that there's anything wrong with the Q-Towers, its just that the Control Towers look a lot cleaner and are way easier to install than the Qs. I had Q-Towers on my last vehicle and was able to reuse my bars and I can say that I like the Control Towers much, much more.

Yakima Control Towers are great. So much easier to deal with than the Q-Towers. You can just "set 'em, and forget 'em. They don’t need to be constantly readjusted and the Landing Pads mounted in the Dodge Factory Tracks perfectly. They go on so easily and can be removed from the car easily. In the winter, I just take the whole system off with my three bike attachments still attached. Couldn't be more convenient.
