The Yakima SteelHead Bike Racks (8002045) are classic fork mount bike carriers that are extremely strong, easy to use and quickly attach to Yakima multi-purpose base rack crossbars. The Yakima SteelHead is not compatible with Inno and Thule square load bars or factory car rack crossbars. Yakima lock recommended (not included; see accessory add-ons below) to simultaneously secure the bicycle to the Yakima SteelHead and the bike rack itself to the roof rack crossbars. Fits many bicycle sizes and shapes including road bikes with skinny tires on up to cruiser / hybrid bike tires and mountain bike knobby tires.
- Quick-release skewer provides easy loading/unloading of your bike.
- Long throw 9 mm quick-release skewer grasps any size mountain or road bike fork. Please note if your bike has disc brakes we recommend the Yakima SprocketRocket bike rack instead.
- Adjust skewer to your bike's front fork only once; from then on, clamp your bike's fork into the mount in one easy motion.
- Made of stainless steel to withstand lots of use and abuse.
- Lockable with Yakima Same Key System (SKS) lock core (not included; see accessory add-ons below). Simultaneously locks bike to the Yakima SteelHead and the bike rack itself to the roofrack cross bars.
- Attaches quickly to Yakima roof base rack cross bars. Not compatible with Inno and Thule square load bars or factory rack bars.

Does Exactly What it is Supposed to Do

The Steelhead is sweet. I chose it over the Copperhead. The rack does exactly what it is supposed to do, which is hold my bike and keep it from flying off the roof of my car. The bikes are stable when mounted on there. The skewer is easy to use. Installs very easily too.

The Yakama Steelhead bike carrier is a good bike rack. It holds the bike very well, much better, in my opinion, than upright style racks. Highly recommend.

Fork mount design delivers very aerodynamic and fuel efficient performance. Easy to use skewer adjustment using special Yakima engineered lockable skewer. Perform tightening adjustment to skewer the first time and never worry about adjusting again. Simply place bike on fork mount and close shut the skewer lever. Easy to use rear ratcheting strap holds rear wheel securely in place. Yakima SteelHead bike rack mounts to Yakima round bars only. Optionally lock bicycle inside the carrier using a Yakima SKS lock core. Also, when the Yakima Steel Head skewer is inserted and locked closed using a Yakima lock core, it prevents anyone from being able to pull up the red lever on the SteelHead head assembly and steal the bike rack itself.

The Yakima Steel Head is not compatible with most disc-brake equipped mountain bikes. Instead we recommend the Yakima Sprocket Rocket bike rack.
