Sometimes you just wanna go it alone, and now you can thanks to the Yakima BoatLoader load-assist kayak bar. The Yakima BoatLoader kayak and canoe load extension makes getting a boat on your roof rack easy with just one person: simply slide out from the side of the vehicle cross bar, allowing you to place the nose of the boat onto the load arm, and then position on the rooftop kayak carrier without damaging boat or vehicle. The load-assist arm fits Yakima round bars only, and handily retracts into the cross bar when not in use. Whether you want to conserve energy before you start your paddle or don't have any energy left when you finish a great day on the water, you can still get your kayak or canoe there and back again solo thanks to the BoatLoader retracting boat assist.

  • Load-assist arm telescopes out from the side of the vehicle for easy kayak loading and unloading (extends up to 26"), and retracts into the cross bar when not being used
  • Compatible with Yakima round cross bars only
  • Full instructions included
  • Yakima Racks lifetime warranty

I would recommend this item to a friend.

I can now load heavy cartops by myself safely
August 8, 2017
I waited a year before this review to see how much I would use it. Answer: all the time. Even if someone wants to help I will turn them down because this is so much safer than relying on a stranger. I put it on the back rack to avoid the possibility of hitting the side mirror on front. I have a canak that weighs 85 ponds and has no thwarts for lifting and it goes up easily. I did notice that if you load. on gravel surface the boat's bow can slide on the ground and scratch it so I first place an inverted old car mat on the ground to protect it and keep it from scratching. It's even useful for loading lumber. Disappears nicely when not needed.
