My previous rack was a Thule "hang and dangle" which swayed and knocked the bikes together. This secures the bikes without all the worry of clanking them together and its fold-up dimensions are so compact that I tend to leave it on the car more than I did with the Thule.

I was looking for a hitch rack that was better than the traditional “hang and dangle” style for my Lexus. There are a lot of new “tray” style hitch racks out there and I ended up purchasing the Yakima Hold Up and I have been completely happy with it. It has it all. Loading the bikes is very easy, you don’t have to hoist them up very high and the padded hook that presses down on the tire nicely ratchets into place and securely holds the bike down. Once the wheel straps are locked down the bikes are firmly held in place. Yakima even includes a locking cable that can be used to lock the bikes as well as the rack itself. Another great feature is when you’re not using the rack, it can be folded into the upright position to make for easier parallel parking and a cleaner overall look.

My wife and I had been using an older Yakima hitch rack to transport our bicycles but after years of service, it finally got to the point of needing to be replaced. AFter a bit of sticker shock, we made the big jump to the Yakima Holdup and we now feel it was worth the investment. It was a huge improvement in so many ways. The bikes are so much more stable than when they were hanging from the support arms of our older rack. And they are so much easier to load and unload. In the past, we had to use a frame adapter for my wife's bike, which was always a huge inconvenience. Because of the smart design of the Holdup, we don't need the adapter. The rack sets up easy for when you are ready to load your bikes, and it folds flat easily and can be placed upright for when you aren't using it.

I love the concept of this rack. It has plenty of clearance from the car, and I can access my trunk with no problem. The cable lock is a bit inconvenient, so I bought the Hitch Lock, which I just leave attached. Also, when I have two bikes on the rack, they do touch each other, so I have to adjust the seats. This is a bit inconvenient, but not the end of the world. Overall, I like this rack much better than any other rack on the market.

I like the rack, very easy to use. One of my trays cracked just 2 weeks after install. Also, when I mount two bikes they touch. I wish it had an adjustment to move the bikes back and forth.
