LOVE My RACK
this Yakima HoldUp hitch bike rack review by MADwoman

First off, ORS and this rack came highly recommended by a friend making my purchase easy. That said, I was pleased at the organization of the ORS website....I found all the information I needed including a GREAT detailed video on how to use the rack. This video gave me the confidence that it was the right rack for me. It's easy to use, the built in lock is great and it doesn't stick out very far and my dogs can hop into the back of my truck with it on (BONUS)! The only feature not up to snuff is the bottle opener...although a cool feature, consider metal vs. plastic so it can survive a few 'post-rides'. Totally recommend this rack!
The PERFECT Bike Rack!

We bought this rack for a roadtrip from North Carolina to Louisiana. I've had roof racks and trunk racks but by FAR this is the easiest and most secure bike rack I've ever owned! I like that the bikes are not secured by their frames (especially with a carbon frame) but by the wheels so there is no torque on my bike frames! Easy on and off - no hassles!
Great Sturdy Hitch Mounted Rack

Happy with the rack. Easy to mount on vehicle. Simple installation. Easy to mount both bikes. Rack is solid in the hitch and bikes are solid in the rack. Rack did not clear the rear mounted spare which is slighty wider than the stock spare....now using a 5 inch extension with Yakima bolt and nut kit. This cuts down carrying capacity but my bikes are relatively light (less than 55 lbs for both).
Drop Down Feature Rules!

I highly recommend this rack for anyone with a car that they want to open the rear door when the bike rack is attached. This carrier has a slick feature that allows the rack to fold down out of the way, even with bikes on, allowing you to open the rear of the door. This feature alone is worth the price on buying this rack instead of any other platform bike rack that doesn't have dropdown capability.
Nothing could be easier

vehicle year/make/model: 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser
item(s) transported: road and mtn bikes
I've always transported my bikes in the back of my pickup, but with my new vehicle (FJ Cruiser), I had to have a different way to haul my bikes. This hitch rack is so easy to install and to use that it takes only 1-2 minutes to put it on, lock it down and load my bikes. Nothing could be easier. I even have a rear mounted spare tire and the rack gives me clearance in both the down (with bikes) and upright positions so I can keep it installed all the time. I have carbon frame bikes and I didn't want to have any contact points on my frames so this rack works perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this rack to anyone who wants solid construction and ease of use.
I mostly love this rack

Pros: convenient, sturdy, well built. I love the fact that any bike can fit regardless of geometry. It is very easy to load. Cons: Very heavy and sticks out very far. With the plus 2 rack it stick WAY out from the car. The lock is not very convenient. The older model Hookup had a lock to secure the rack to the hitch that was not attached to a cable. The Holdup has a combo cable/lock that connects to the bolt through the hitch - very inconvenient. To lock the rack the cable must be on the rack.
This rack holds the bike well and doesn't loosen during transport.

I was concerned that this rack wouldn't hold my bike which is over 50 lbs. I have been disappointed with other racks that hold the bike upright but have had no issues with the hold-up. It doesn't seem to damage the bike anywhere. It does need a strap to prevent the handlebars from hitting the rear window as there is some side to side movement during stop and go. It seems to get easier and easier with time to load. I am very happy with this purchase from ORS Racks Direct and the service I received.
Perfect addition to the long road trips up north.

I have always loved Yakima products and do love this one! Easy to install: Only 1 point of contact with the car, the hitch... No straps to adjust or tighten. Folding it up while the bikes are off the rack allows you to easily get it in the garage or a tighter parallel parking space too. We love it!
Hold Up gets 2 Thumbs Up

I was looking for a hitch rack that was better than the traditional “hang and dangle” style for my Lexus. There are a lot of new “tray” style hitch racks out there and I ended up purchasing the Yakima Hold Up and I have been completely happy with it. It has it all. Loading the bikes is very easy, you don’t have to hoist them up very high and the padded hook that presses down on the tire nicely ratchets into place and securely holds the bike down. Once the wheel straps are locked down the bikes are firmly held in place. Yakima even includes a locking cable that can be used to lock the bikes as well as the rack itself. Another great feature is when you’re not using the rack, it can be folded into the upright position to make for easier parallel parking and a cleaner overall look.
Huge Improvement for us

My wife and I had been using an older Yakima hitch rack to transport our bicycles but after years of service, it finally got to the point of needing to be replaced. AFter a bit of sticker shock, we made the big jump to the Yakima Holdup and we now feel it was worth the investment. It was a huge improvement in so many ways. The bikes are so much more stable than when they were hanging from the support arms of our older rack. And they are so much easier to load and unload. In the past, we had to use a frame adapter for my wife's bike, which was always a huge inconvenience. Because of the smart design of the Holdup, we don't need the adapter. The rack sets up easy for when you are ready to load your bikes, and it folds flat easily and can be placed upright for when you aren't using it.

bikes touch when two bikes are mounted

I like the rack, very easy to use. One of my trays cracked just 2 weeks after install. Also, when I mount two bikes they touch. I wish it had an adjustment to move the bikes back and forth.

My previous rack was a Thule "hang and dangle" which swayed and knocked the bikes together. This secures the bikes without all the worry of clanking them together and its fold-up dimensions are so compact that I tend to leave it on the car more than I did with the Thule.
Very Nice Rack

I love the concept of this rack. It has plenty of clearance from the car, and I can access my trunk with no problem. The cable lock is a bit inconvenient, so I bought the Hitch Lock, which I just leave attached. Also, when I have two bikes on the rack, they do touch each other, so I have to adjust the seats. This is a bit inconvenient, but not the end of the world. Overall, I like this rack much better than any other rack on the market.
Great Rack With Minor Engineering Flaws

The Hold Pp is simple to assemble and install. Loading and unloading bikes is a breeze, and the bikes very secure. The rack is snugged into the receiver and does not make noise while driving. Our bikes do touch just a bit. No serious rubbing, so we can live with that. The one thing I can't understand is why Yakima put the trays under the frame so that they are only secured by two small bolts, instead of putting the trays on top of the frame, making a much stronger support system. Just a very odd choice in my opinion. I am going to use some large hose clamps to give some backup support to the mounting bolts.
