The Yakima Mako Aero Kayak Rack Saddles (8004044) include all the features and ease of use of the regular Yakima Mako Saddles, but now includes universal mounts enabling the Yakima Mako Aero Saddles to fasten directly to virtually all factory rack cross bars, as well as Yakima bars, all styles of Thule Racks load bars, Inno Racks crossbars etc. No Yakima Mighty Mounts Adapters necessary! Each Yakima Mako Aero Saddle can also optionally lock to the base rack crossbars using a Yakima Lock (not included; see accessory add-ons below.) Saddles feature Dynaflex pads that are very flexible when loading a kayak, then firmly grips for a super secure hold during transport. Yakima Mako Aero kayak rack now includes Yakima Mako Pads too, allowing for easier sliding of kayak into saddles and also premium kayak hull protection. One Yakima heavy-duty strap and one Yakima Bow/Stern tie-down strap included with each pair of Mako Aero cradles.
PLEASE NOTE: The Yakima Mako Aero Saddles are sold as a 1/2 set (one pair), providing you the option to combine the Mako Aero 1/2 set with the Yakima HullyRollers 1/2 set (one pair) for effortless single-person kayak loading or using a full set (two pair) of Mako Aero Saddles either with the Yakima ShowBoat slide-out roller system for easist kayak loading or simply used alone when kayak loading is not a primary concern.
- Yakima Mako Aero Saddles kayak rack fits all kayak hull shapes & sizes including tandem, sea-ocean, touring, recreational, river-whitewater kayaks etc.
- Dynaflex pads flex to grip the boat hull and rubber centers make contact when tightened with the included straps to keep boat securely in place during transit.
- Each saddle now includes Yakima Mako Pads, an extra layer of protection at contact points with boat to protect hull's finish (also ideal for optimal protection of gel-coated composite hulls). The Mako pads also allow for easier sliding of kayak into cradles.

Good Product for the Right Cross Bars

I think the Mako Aero saddles would be better on a bar other than round Yakima crossbars. I have the Yakima round bars and the saddles just swivel around and move when I was pushing my kayak on to load. I had them as tight as I could screw them, but loading and unloading the kayak they swiveled and I had to keep adjusting them. It was very frustrating, if you had someone to just pick the boat up and place it between the saddles then it might work, but to load by yourself does not work. I traded them back in for the regular Yakima Mako Saddles and rear HullyRollers.

Freeze asks - Will the Yakima Mako Aero saddles fit a 2007 Pontiac Montana SV6 with factory intalled racks? The Pontiac Montana SV6 is not found in the 'Fit My Car' section. Looking to load a 13' Hobie Revolution Kayak.
RACKDAWG answers - You will need to first install the Yakima RailGrab roof rack system to the 2007 Pontiac Montana SV6 side rails, the 48" length bars will be fine if carrying one kayak but get the 58 inch length cross bars if planning to ever transport 2 kayaks side by side. You can then mount the Yakima Mako Aero kayak rack to the RailGrab cross bars.
Susan S. asks - I have a 2010 Honda CR-V with factory crossbars only, no side-rails. Will 2 sets of the Yakima Hully-Rollers (and Universal Mighty Mounts for connecting the Hully Rollers to the factory rack cross bars) and 2 sets of the Yakima Mako Aero Saddles work? Wondering if there is enough room to place them side by side for carrying two kayaks...
ORS Crew answers - There is not enough room on the 2010 Honda CRV factory rack crossbars for 2 sets of Mako Aero Saddles and HullyRollers side by side to carry 2 kayaks. Luckily, it is easy to remove your factory rack and then install a Yakima base rack to the fixed rack attachment points that the factory rack was attached to. You will want the Yakima Control Towers roof rack system, and select the LP10 Landing Pads (these connect to the 2010 Honda CR-V fixed points on the rooftop) and the pair of 58 inch crossbars (the 58" length will provide enough room for two sets of Mako Aero Saddles and Hully Rollers next to each other to carry 2 kayaks. Another option is to use sets of j-cradle style kayak carriers. These carry the boats angled on their sides, thus using up less crossbar space. You will have enough room for two sets of these on the '10 Honda CR-V factory roof rack cross bars. The Yakima BowDown and HullRaiser Aero are both great options.
