The Yakima Q Tower Half Pack System is a 1 crossbar roof rack system, serving as an ideal multi-purpose base rack solution for cars and trucks without rain gutters or factory racks and only need 1 cross bar and 2 Yakima Q Towers & Q Clips instead of the normal 2 cross bars and 4 Q Towers & Q Clips. The Yakima Q Tower Half Pack system is an especially great component for creating car & truck racks to carry a canoe, kayaks, lumber, ladders and more on gutterless trucks and cars when used in combination with a rear receiver hitch rack or a pickup truckbed rack. For example, use a Yakima Q Tower Half Pack roof rack system up front on the car or pickup truck cab roof and a Yakima DryDock hitch mount canoe/kayak/ladder rack (sold separately; see accessory add-ons below) on the rear of your vehicle. Or use the Q Tower 1/2 Pack system up front and a 1/2 set of the Yakima Outdoorsman 300 truck rack system (sold separately; see accessory add-ons below) in the truckbed.
The complete Yakima Q Towers Half Pack roof rack system includes all 3 components that are necessary to attach two Q Towers & one cross bar to your pickup truck cab roof or car roof top:
- Two (2) Yakima Q Towers.
- Two (2) Yakima Q clips (specific to your vehicle; see ordering notes below).
- One (1) Yakima Cross bar. (bar end caps included).

Just having the half pack Q-tower was great since originally, I just needed 2 for the front bar, and then the Yakima Outdoorsman 1/2 rack setup for the bed of my truck so could span my canoe across. Worked great for a few years, then finally added another half pack at a great price so I could carry bikes on my truck roof when needed (have 1-2 bikes on top and 2 in the bed leaving room in my bed for camping gear, etc). Very versatile and I'll be able to re-use when/if I get a new vehicle by just getting new Q-clips.

(PLEASE NOTE: Also reviewing the half set of Yakima Outdoorsman 300 full-size truck rack for the pickup truck bed, used in combination with the Yakima Q Towers Half Pack on the cab rooftop.) This system works better than I had hoped. The only thing you give up is the ability to adjust either rack and so as in my case the cab Towers and cross bar are a couple inches lower than the truck bed rack Towers and cross bar. Well worth the money.

Designed for use on vehicles with nothing on the roof currently (i.e. no factory rack, side rails, roof tracks, fixed-attachment points etc.) This is a great solution for when only one crossbar is needed for the roof top instead of the normal two crossbars configuration. The Yakima Q Towers Half Pack is a very useful component for transporting very long items and is commonly used in combination with the trailer hitch mount Yakima DryDock (this video shows the Q Towers Half Pack on a pickup truck cab roof and the DryDock mounted onto the rear 2 inch trailer hitch receiver).
