The Yakima Q Towers complete roof rack includes all 3 components that are necessary for installing a general-purpose base rack on your vehicle's roof top, providing the platform that will allow you to then connect roof mount gear carriers that carry your gear and equipment:

I've been carrying around my track bike in the back of my car for over 3 years now because I never wanted to put up the money to get a roof rack. I have some scrapes and scratches because of that and knew it was time to get a rack for my car. After searching the internet for 30 seconds I knew ORS Racks Direct was not only a great serviced company, but was cheaper than all of their competitors. I purchased a full rack system (Q Towers, 58" crossbars, Q121 clips, 50" fairing, sks locks) and everything is perfect. Fits and looks great on my car. I would fully recommend purchasing from ORS, I live in southern California and saw that it was being shipped from the exact opposite side of the US, and I got it in 3 days (ground shipping) it was pretty unbelievable.

Yakima Racks seems to be the only company making a roof rack for the Smart fortwo, and it is fortunate for us Smart owners that Yakima makes an awesome system. Once assembled using the included Q116 Clips, Q Towers and 2 cross bars (easy with great directions), the rack goes on and off easily, and provides the extra storage area I need when traveling in this little car. Great system!

The Yakima racks are dead simple to install even on my car that doesn't have a factory roof rack. It took about 30 minutes from unboxing to putting the bike on the roof. Would suggest this rack to anyone who needs to transport gear.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a roof rack system and I chose Yakima over Thule because the salesperson told me that they would fit the rounded shape of the roofline of my Focus the best. It made sense to me. Because Yakima bars are round, accessories that are mounted to them can be pivoted and aligned as desired. When it came to installing them (I wasn’t willing to pay the $50 installation fee) I was amazed at how easy it all went together. The directions are very clear and before you even put the towers on the roof, you’ve already positioned them on the bars according to the very specific
measurements that are included. The measurements also tell you where to place the front bar in relation to the windshield, and how far back the rear bar needs to be. The way that the tower locks down is commendable as well, and is foolproof due to a set of hashmarks, which help you to know exactly how tight they should be set. You know they are at the perfect tension when you see one hashmark, not two or zero. Idiot proof. Once they were installed, I grabbed the bars and shook my car and they didn’t budge. The lock cores went in with ease and everything was all set, and it only took me about an hour.
Better than Thule Aero Feet

Compared with Thule Aero Towers, I personally feel that the Q-Towers are more attractive (they sit lower on the roof) and are definitely easier to install. They fit so well you’d think they were factory installed. As far as price, they are within a few dollars of Thule. Just make sure your car uses Q Towers. They have several types of towers and the Q-Towers aren’t always the ones you may need. The other thing that is cool about the Q-Towers is once they are adjusted to fit your vehicle, you can take them off in minutes. I think they are the best racks out there.

ORS Racks Direct crew explains - Besides transporting luggage, sports gear and equipment etc, our manufacturers' roofrack systems, including the Yakima Q Tower system, are actually a great choice for carrying commercial / construction materials as well. These racks are much stronger than factory racks. Attaching a set of general purpose Yakima Load Stops to Yakima base rack system crossbars is an excellent setup for transporting lumber, plywood, ladders, and much more.
LUCY K asks - I need a 2009 Nissan Cube roof rack and want to confirm the Q Towers are what I need for a Nissan Cube rack. Thanks!
juniperMT answers - Yes, the Q Towers are the correct choice for a 2009 Nissan Cube rack. This is what I have installed on mine and it works great. You'll get two pairs of Q31 clips to use on the 09 Nissan Cube. Make sure to select the 58 inch length crossbars.
Frank C. asks - I still have Q Towers system from my old car. Would I be able to use them on a 2005 Honda CRV?
Steve answers - Only the crossbars. The 2005 Honda CR-V has fix points on the rooftop. You would attach the Yakima LP8 Landing Pads to these fix points. Then snap on the Yakima Control Towers to the LP8 Landing Pads. You can then connect your pair of crossbars to the Control Towers.
TIM HAWKS asks - Can these racks cause rain to seep into around door? I am think of using this as a Ford Focus roof rack.
ORS Racks Direct crew responds - No chance of rain getting in. Car rack manufacturers invest much time and money engineering systems to prevent any possible water issues. The Q Towers roofrack is no exception. The Q clips provide a seemless fit so they don't impact the car doors.
Daniel asks - What's the weight limit of this when used as a 2010 Scion xB roof rack?
ORS Racks Direct crew answers - Yakima specifies 165 lbs as the load limit when used as a 2010 Scion xB car rack.
Holy Cow asks - Are there specific Q Towers for say a Q 25 clip or are they standardized?
ORS Crew answers - The Q Towers are the same for all vehicles. Only the Q Clips and Pads (included with the Q Clips) are specific to the vehicle year/make/model.
Doreen asks - Will the Yakima Q Towers work as a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse roof rack? I want to carry one or two kayaks.
ORS Crew answers - The Q Tower car rack system won't work on the '01 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The Inno IN-SU roof rack is the best option. You will also need to use the Inno IN-JK short roof adapter kit in combination with the IN-SU system, as the IN-JK kit increases the distance between the front and rear cross bars providing a safe platform to transport long items such as kayaks. You can then attach any kayak carriers to the Inno cross bars. The Thule 400XT Aero car rack, along with the 477 short roof adapter kit, will work on the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse rooftop. However, even though the 477 will increase the distance between the front and rear cross bars, that distance only provides a safe foundation for attaching ski-snowboard carriers and bike carriers. Thule does not recommend hauling kayaks on the 400XT / 477 set up.
PTP asks - I have a 2011 VW Tiguan without factory rails or anything, just a plain naked roof top. What rack system would work the best? The alternative is a permanently installed rack which I really want to avoid. Please advise.
ORS Crew answers - Luckily for your 2011 VW Tiguan with a bare rooftop, you do not have to go the permanent install/drilling solution. As of this post (6/20/2011), Yakima Racks and Thule Racks do not offer a solution for the VW Tiguan. However, Inno Racks offers the Inno IN-SU roof rack system. Select the B147 58" length crossbars. You will also receive a set of four IN-SU Stays (the towers) and four K584 Fit Hooks. The IN-SU car rack system works just like the Q Towers system would work, by attaching to the edge of the rooftop and top of the door wells using the Fit Hooks.
