Idiot Proof and Solid
this Yakima Q-Tower Review by J. Preston
vehicle year/make/model: 2007 Ford Focus 5 Door
item(s) transported: Eventually bikes and skis, maybe a cargo box.
I finally bit the bullet and bought a roof rack system and I chose Yakima over Thule because the salesperson told me that they would fit the rounded shape of the roofline of my Focus the best. It made sense to me. Because Yakima bars are round, accessories that are mounted to them can be pivoted and aligned as desired. When it came to installing them (I wasn’t willing to pay the $50 installation fee) I was amazed at how easy it all went together. The directions are very clear and before you even put the towers on the roof, you’ve already positioned them on the bars according to the very specific
measurements that are included. The measurements also tell you where to place the front bar in relation to the windshield, and how far back the rear bar needs to be. The way that the tower locks down is commendable as well, and is foolproof due to a set of hashmarks, which help you to know exactly how tight they should be set. You know they are at the perfect tension when you see one hashmark, not two or zero. Idiot proof. Once they were installed, I grabbed the bars and shook my car and they didn’t budge. The lock cores went in with ease and everything was all set, and it only took me about an hour.
Better than Thule Aero Feet
this Yakima Q-Tower Review by Sam Belmore
vehicle year/make/model: 2000 Honda Prelude
item(s) transported: Surf Board and Wind Board
Compared with Thule Aero Towers, I personally feel that the Q-Towers are more attractive (they sit lower on the roof) and are definitely easier to install. They fit so well you’d think they were factory installed. As far as price, they are within a few dollars of Thule. Just make sure your car uses Q Towers. They have several types of towers and the Q-Towers aren’t always the ones you may need. The other thing that is cool about the Q-Towers is once they are adjusted to fit your vehicle, you can take them off in minutes. I think they are the best racks out there.
Awesome Redesign on the New Towers
this Yakima Q-Towers Review by Robert Patrick
vehicle year/make/model: 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX Limited
item(s) transported: road bikes, snowboards
I originally had the old model Q-Towers and they worked pretty well until the brass hardware began stripping at the head. I bought one new Q-Tower not realizing it had been redesigned and was surprised to find a much better product. Instead of having a solid one-piece brass, pressure locking mechanism for the cross bars, the new model has a screw-type tightening system that fixes the old problem of stripping the tightening hardware (I know its kind of hard to explain). If you have the old style Q-Towers you know what I mean. The new Towers have pretty much eliminated the possibility of ruining the Towers.
Works Great
this Yakima Q-Towers Review by JT58
vehicle year/make/model: 2010 Ford Edge
item(s) transported: kayaks, bikes
The Q Towers and Q Clips worked great on our 2010 Ford Edge. They mount easy and are easy to remove once you set the distances of the tower locations. The bike holders mount in a snap and we also load on our kayaks right on the bars direct. We experienced some slight paint removal where the Q Clips mount in the door frame. Suggest using some electrical tape where the curved portion of clips contact the door frame.

Rick asks - What is the height of the Q Towers?
ORS Racks Direct crew answers - The exact height when mounted on different vehicles will vary slightly, but a good working measurement of the Q Towers is 4" tall when installed on the roof top.
Holy Cow asks - Are there specific Q Towers for say a Q 25 clip or are they standardized?
ORS Crew answers - The Q Towers are the same for all vehicles. Only the Q Clips and Pads (included with the Q Clips) are specific to the vehicle year/make/model.
June B. asks - I have an old Yakima rack from my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that attached to the factory side rails. I want now to use it on my 2006 VW Jetta TDI sedan rooftop. Are the Q Towers and Q Clips what I need? I think I can then reuse my 58 inch crossbars?
ORS Crew answers - Yes, you will need a set of four Yakima Q Towers and two pairs of Q5 clips. You can then attach your 58 inch cross bars to the Q Towers and mount the Q Tower rack to the 2006 VW Jetta TDI rooftop using the Q5 Clips. The 58 inch bars are necessary for the 06 Jetta rooftop, the 48 inch length would be too short.
Mark B. asks - I have a Yakima Q Tower system from a 2000 Nissan Maxima. Can I transfer this over to my 2007 Acura MDX rooftop (currently no side rails or factory rack or anything).
ORS Crew answers - You would be able to use your current Q Towers, however you cannot use the Nissan Maxima Q clips. Instead you need a pair of Q131 clips and a pair of Q34 clips. Also your current cross bars are most likely too short, as the Nissan Maxima calls for 48” length cross bars and the minimum length that you can use on the Acura MDX are 58” length crossbars.
G. Cuello asks - I'm interested in buying the Q Towers but will they fit a 1998 Dodge Stratus 4door car?
ORS Crew answers - Yes the Q Towers are a great match for use as a 1998 Dodge Stratus 4DR roof rack. You will also need two pairs of Q48 clips (for attaching the Q Towers to the vehicle) and pair of 48 inch Yakima round bars (you can also go with longer bars if you need more crossbar space).
