Great Product; Outstanding ORS Customer Service!!!

Yakima Skyline roof rack installed easily; fit and finish excellent; very sturdy and solid; very nice looking. Installed on 1999 Jeep Cherokee for transporting two Bass Pro Ascend kayaks.....side-by-side, hulls up. System consisted of Landing Pad #2 (front and rear, Skyline towers, and black 70" Jetstream bars. Bars extend about 12" beyond outside of towers in order to handle 60" total kayak width. Note, the 70" dimension does not include the two bar end caps which add 1" each for a total 72" overall installed width. Added a Yakima SKS lock core at each tower for security. Using NRS Barrito 8mm thick neoprene crossbar pads to protect crossbars and kayaks, Be sure to check out these pads!!!! Yakima does not offer accessories to use with the T-slot in the top of the Jetstream bars. I am making load stops and other accessories of my own design to take advantage of this feature.....T-slots are mature technology, not rocket science....but, I am an engineer. Adding additional sets of Landing pads on my other several Jeep Cherokees will allow quick switching of towers/crossbars between all vehicles for varied uses.....farm, hunting, off-roading, city and Pavement Princess.......quick, easy interchange.
Pros:Another in a long string of great experiences with ORS Customer Service Order assistance....and FAST shipping and great status communication!!! Yakima roof rack is solid, attractive, excellent fit/finish; easy installation. high application flexibility, easy removal between outings; quiet when empty (Yakima can't be responsible for your loads' aerodynamic inefficiency!!), Offers "anticipation" of innovative load attachment via T-slot feature, BUT...see CON below.
Cons:somewhat expensive; no T-slot accessories available to date; awkward access to T-slots (must use small screwdeiver to pry off end cap.....those will break soon.....Thule end caps easily swivel open for T-slot access); would prefer matte finish on Skyline towers and Jetstream end caps instead of shiny finish (looks cheap) to match landing pads finish and hide use scratches. "Sliding Security Doors" on bottom of Skyline towers intended to conceal attachment screws for security are a poor design as they don't easily move into protective position. Caution with Landing Pad #2 instructions. They advise : "....do not to tighten mounting fasteners just yet"....can be done later. However, instructions never instruct you to finish the tightening procedure, and do not advise torque spec. Instructions referenced alegedly supplied Allen wrench for tightening landing pads mounting screws, but was not included. The calibrated torque driver supplied with the towers does not fit the landing pad fasteners. Call to Yakima Customer Tech Support offered no assistance and were indifferent to inquiry....just said "tighten"...is that 100lb girly or 300lb Bubba tight??? And, what about forgetting to finish tightening procedure.....imagine a rack coming loose at speed!!!!
