ATTENTION: The Yakima Landing Pad 13 converts the factory installed roof rack systems on 2012, 2013, 2014 Subaru Outback wagon models (possibly later year models as well) over to the Control Towers rack & cross bars system. The Yakima Landing Pads 12 (set of 4) is required to convert 2010-2011 Subaru Outback factory roof rack systems, also enabling installation of the Control Tower general-purpose base rack system. The #13 Landing Pads and #12 Landing Pad both create a much more versatile car rack cross bars system compared to the factory installed Subaru Outback wagon racks. As always, please contact us with any additional questions you may have.
The clever Yakima Landing Pad 13 (LP13-8000239) includes a complete set of four Yakima Racks Landing Pad 13, as well as all tools, mounting hardware, snap-on covers and easy installation instructions for removing the factory cross bars on 2012, 2013, 2014 Subaru Outback wagon (and possibly newer models), providing the foundation for then connecting Yakima Control Towers and Yakima cross bars to all four Yakima LP13 Landing Pads (Control Towers and cross bars sold separately; see accessory add-ons below).
Also available is the Yakima Control Towers roof rack complete system that includes four Yakima Control Towers, pair of Yakima crossbars and set of four Yakima Landing Pads (select the Landing Pad 13 in the dropdown box).
The 8000239 Yakima Landing Pad 13 (also called LP13) is a clever Yakima Racks innovation that finally solves the common issues many 2012-2014+ Subaru Outback wagon owners have with the factory installed rack system issued on the vehicle cartop (2010-2011 Subaru Outback wagon models will require the LP12 Yakima Landing Pad 12 (set of 4). A lot of Subaru Outback owners need extra crossbar length for the many gear carrier attachments they want to use to transport their equipment, and the newer model factory rack crossbars are not long enough to allow for several gear carriers attached at the same time. Or owners have current Yakima gear carriers that are not compatible with the shape of the Subaru Outback factory rack crossbars. Finally, a Yakima multi-purpose base rack system can now be used by simply removing the factory cross bars and mounting the four Yakima Landing Pads 13 to the exact points where the factory crossbars were attached. Then quickly connect the Yakima Control Towers and any length Yakima round cross bars to the Landing Pads.
Why not just install an aftermarket multi-purpose roof rack system to the 2012-2014+ Subaru Outback factory side rails you ask? The answer is that the maximum distance between the front and rear crossbars would still be too narrow for safely transporting any longer loads such as cargo boxes, surfboards, SUP boards, canoe, kayaks, ladders, lumber and so on. With the Yakima Landing Pad 13 and Control Towers system there is a 30 inch spread between the front and rear Yakima crossbars, providing a much friendlier and safer foundation for attaching a canoe carrier, kayak racks, cargo roof boxes, stand-up paddleboard and surfboard racks etc., and transporting all those long items.
