ATTENTION: The Yakima Landing Pad 13 converts the factory installed roof rack systems on 2012, 2013, 2014 Subaru Outback wagon models (possibly later year models as well) over to the Control Towers rack & cross bars system. The Yakima Landing Pads 12 (set of 4) is required to convert 2010-2011 Subaru Outback factory roof rack systems, also enabling installation of the Control Tower general-purpose base rack system. The #13 Landing Pads and #12 Landing Pad both create a much more versatile car rack cross bars system compared to the factory installed Subaru Outback wagon racks. As always, please contact us with any additional questions you may have.
The clever Yakima Landing Pad 13 (LP13-8000239) includes a complete set of four Yakima Racks Landing Pad 13, as well as all tools, mounting hardware, snap-on covers and easy installation instructions for removing the factory cross bars on 2012, 2013, 2014 Subaru Outback wagon (and possibly newer models), providing the foundation for then connecting Yakima Control Towers and Yakima cross bars to all four Yakima LP13 Landing Pads (Control Towers and cross bars sold separately; see accessory add-ons below).
Also available is the Yakima Control Towers roof rack complete system that includes four Yakima Control Towers, pair of Yakima crossbars and set of four Yakima Landing Pads (select the Landing Pad 13 in the dropdown box).
The 8000239 Yakima Landing Pad 13 (also called LP13) is a clever Yakima Racks innovation that finally solves the common issues many 2012-2014+ Subaru Outback wagon owners have with the factory installed rack system issued on the vehicle cartop (2010-2011 Subaru Outback wagon models will require the LP12 Yakima Landing Pad 12 (set of 4). A lot of Subaru Outback owners need extra crossbar length for the many gear carrier attachments they want to use to transport their equipment, and the newer model factory rack crossbars are not long enough to allow for several gear carriers attached at the same time. Or owners have current Yakima gear carriers that are not compatible with the shape of the Subaru Outback factory rack crossbars. Finally, a Yakima multi-purpose base rack system can now be used by simply removing the factory cross bars and mounting the four Yakima Landing Pads 13 to the exact points where the factory crossbars were attached. Then quickly connect the Yakima Control Towers and any length Yakima round cross bars to the Landing Pads.
Why not just install an aftermarket multi-purpose roof rack system to the 2012-2014+ Subaru Outback factory side rails you ask? The answer is that the maximum distance between the front and rear crossbars would still be too narrow for safely transporting any longer loads such as cargo boxes, surfboards, SUP boards, canoe, kayaks, ladders, lumber and so on. With the Yakima Landing Pad 13 and Control Towers system there is a 30 inch spread between the front and rear Yakima crossbars, providing a much friendlier and safer foundation for attaching a canoe carrier, kayak racks, cargo roof boxes, stand-up paddleboard and surfboard racks etc., and transporting all those long items.
- The Yakima Landing Pad 13 (also called LP13) includes a complete set of four Yakima Racks Landing Pad 13, as well as all tools, mounting hardware, snap-on covers and easy installation instructions.
- Effortless installation, simply remove the current Subaru Outback factory rack crossbars using the included six-lobe wrench. Then attach each of the four Yakima Landing Pads 13 using the included hex wrench.
- Yakima Control Towers and cross bars connect to the Landing Pads (Control Towers and cross bars sold separately; see accessory add-ons below).
Also available is the Yakima Control Towers roof rack complete system that includes four Yakima Control Towers, two Yakima round crossbars and set of four Yakima Landing Pads (select the Landing Pad 13 in the dropdown box).
- Remove the Control Towers and crossbars from the LP13 Landing Pads whenever you don't want the entire roof rack system on the cartop (using a 4-pack of Yakima locks will prevent any crummy thieves from just coming along and removing the Control Towers themselves). The included Landing Pad covers snap onto the Landing Pads for a clean, finished look when not using the Towers and crossbars.
- Patent-pending design solves the headaches of many new model Subaru Outback owners by allowing for the use of a Yakima roof rack system and any length Yakima crossbars, as well as achieving a safe 30 inch distance between the front and rear crossbars for transporting longer gear and equipment.
- Easy to follow 8000239 Yakima Landing Pad 13 installation instructions help manual included.
- Yakima Racks Lifetime Warranty!

Wish the 2014 Outback Came This Way from the Factory
this Yakima Landing Pad 13 review by Russ H.
vehicle year/make/model: 2014 Subaru Outback wagon
item(s) transported: Yakima LoPro cargo box with skis, snowboards, other gear, luggage carried inside the box
The Yakima Landing Pad 13 / Control Towers setup is the perfect replacement for the 2014 Subaru Outback factory rack system. I assembled and installed the entire system within 10-15 minutes. Making sure the cross bars were perfectly centered took the longest (I'm a little bit of a perfectionist). This package completely eliminates and overcomes all of the shortcomings of the factory rack. This has been the best after-market purchase I have made for my 2014 Outback. Best of all, I can now fit my Yakima LoPro box on my Outback without it hitting the rear lift gate.
(specific components included in this configuration: four Control Towers, set of four Landing Pad 13 base mounts, pair of 58" Crossbars)
Discuss the 8000239 LP13 Landing Pads for use with Yakima Control Towers and pair of round crossbars (cross rails) to replace the Subaru Outback factory rack cross bars (model years 2012, 2013, 2014 +). Use the form below to fire away with your questions, answers and general comments about this product.
ORS Crew explains - Also available is the Yakima Racks LP12-8000236 Yakima Landing Pads 12 (set of 4), exactly the same as the Landings Pads 13, except the LP12 model is specifically designed to convert 2010-2011 Subaru Outback wagon models over to the Yakima Control Towers base rack system, replacing the factory rack installed cross bars.
ORS Crew explains - While the Yakima RailGrab Towers roof rack system is compatible with new model Subaru Outback wagons, installing on the factory side rails, there is a dramatic limiting factor when using the RailGrab Towers system. The front and rear Rail Grab cross bars are distanced 21" from each other. This minimal bar spread (measured distance between the front and rear cross bars) safely allows for mounting far fewer gear carrier attachments. Only certain roof mount bike racks, snowboard-ski racks and a couple watersport carriers will safely work. The Yakima Control Towers, set of four Landing Pad 13 and pair of bars system gets you 30" of distance between the two crossbars, allowing for attachment of virtually all gear carriers to the rack bars and safely transporting the full spectrum of sports equipment and other gear.
