The pair of 1126 Yakima 42 inch Tracks make it possible to build a permanent multi-purpose base rack system on cars, vans, trucks, certain camper shells, toppers, truck caps and other applications where no other type of roof rack system will work. Yakima 42 inch Tracks will easily cut down to any smaller custom size too. Once the Yakima Tracks are installed, the Yakima Control Towers & Landing Pad 1 base rack system (see below for this system) simply snaps into the tracks. Control Towers can adjust by moving forward and backward in tracks, creating the ideal space between cross bars for whatever cargo you are transporting. Simple installation and no need for headliner removal. Tracks, instructions and all hardware included. Packaged as a pair.

The 42 inch Yakima Tracks include Plus Nuts for installing on metal surfaces. No need to remove the headliner. Will not work on fiberglass tops. You will need the 60 inch tracks, which include traditional bolts and nuts for installing on fiberglass surfaces. PlusNuts work only on metal surfaces and some aluminum surfaces.

WHY WOULD I INSTALL TRACKS?
Yakima Tracks provide a way to install a rack where no other option exists, or offer an alternative in where a rack is placed on a vehicle's roof. Some simply prefer the appearance over other options.

WHAT IS A PLUSNUT?
A Plusnut is a "blind" fastener that, once installed, provides a threaded screw hole in sheet metal. It works a lot like a molly bolt in sheet rock, only much stronger and is made of stainless steel. They are installed using a special expander tool that comes included with the tracks and hardware. We recommend them for specific vehicles (use our Yakima Fit Guide located below) to avoid having to remove a vehicle's headliner. Fastening is done between the headliner and roof so you will never see them from the inside.

CAN I USE PLUSNUTS IN FIBERGLASS?
No. The Plusnut is designed for sheet metal only. They won't be stable in fiberglass, and may cause damage. Good old-fashion nut and bolt hardware is needed for fiberglass. The Yakima 60" Tracks come with Nuts and Bolts (see below for this item).

WHAT YAKIMA MULTI-PURPOSE BASE RACK TOWER SYSTEM DO I USE?
Yakima Roof Tracks use the Control Towers with Landing Pad 1 (see below for this system).

HOW DO I PUT THE YAKIMA TRACKS ON?
The installation instructions will clearly illustrate where to position the tracks and where to drill the mounting holes. Mark those points, drill the holes, install the Plus Nuts and bolt down the tracks.

WHAT KIND OF WATERPROOFING IS USED?
The tracks come with a waterproofing kit including nylon and rubber washers, a pad running the length of the track, and RTV (silicone) for the screw threads. Installed as directed by the instructions, it'll keep the water out and resist corrosion much better than a factory installed rack.

CAN I USE THE PLUS NUTS ON ALUMINUM?
Plusnuts can be used on aluminum, but performance will vary depending upon the thickness and construction of the roof. Check with the manufacturer for roof schematics and seek a professional install if necessary. As with all custom installations, it is entirely up to the customer to determine if it will work.
